'Just coffee in the morning': Hilary Duff reveals she often follows Gwyneth Paltrow's controversial 'starvation' diet

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Hilary Duff revealed that Gwyneth Paltrow serves as her inspiration when it comes to maintaining her compact figure. Duff acknowledged that she frequently adopts the controversial "starvation" diet advocated by Gwyneth Paltrow. The 35-year-old Disney Channel star admitted this week on the 'Lipstick on the Rim' podcast that she usually skips breakfast to stave off hunger.

Duff told interviewer Molly Sims, "Sometimes I try to—you know, Gwyneth's in trouble for saying this—but sometimes, I try to just drink coffee in the morning and starve off my hunger." In March, the founder of Goop, Paltrow made headlines by revealing that she practices a "nice intermittent fast."

'Obsessed with those cauliflower rounds'

The 35-year-old 'Lizzie McGuire' alum said on the podcast that she "wake[s] up really hungry." She does, however, occasionally break rules when preparing meals for her three children.

The songstress revealed that she is "obsessed with those cauliflower rounds," which she called "super clean," and that she enjoys trying to crisp them up in the air fryer. Duff said that she frequently adds egg salad, a fried egg, avocado, or vegan sausage as a garnish. She also likes overnight oats, reports Page Six.

The 'Raise Your Voice' actress emphasized that she does consume "lots of calories" during the day. Duff works out regularly, going to the gym four to five times per week. She revealed to Sims that in addition to weightlifting, her personal trainer had her perform high-intensity interval training (HIIT). The mother-of-three graced the January 2023 cover of Women's Health Australia, giving her followers a close-up view of her toned physique, as reported by Daily Mail.

Duff can continue to consume foods like "chocolate and bread" as long as she monitors her daily intake of protein, carbohydrates, and fats. The 'Cinderella Story' actress claimed that her healthy diet has "kept her in a good mindset" as well as keeping her in great condition. Although Duff has received acclaim for her active lifestyle in recent years, Paltrow's version of her diet and fitness routine drew criticism online after she shared it.

Gwyneth Paltrow's 'starvation' diet

In March, Paltrow made news for revealing her everyday wellness routine, which alarmed both fans and medical professionals as well as other celebrities. She admitted on the 'Art of Being Well' podcast that she enjoys "a nice intermittent fast" while having an IV in her arm. Page Six reported that she starts her day with coffee since it "won't spike [her] blood sugar," and waits until around noon to eat.

The actress continued by stating that she enjoys soup and "bone broth for lunch a lot of the days." The Oscar winner then engages in "one hour of movement" by going for a walk, doing Pilates, or doing a Tracy Anderson workout. After spending 30 minutes dry brushing in the sauna, the mother of two eats a dinner heavy in vegetables that is representative of foods eaten during the Paleolithic era in order to "support [her] detox."

Social media users criticized the megastar immediately, not just for her "starvation diet," but also for her choice to make it public. One of her many detractors asked, "What is she detoxing from if she doesn't eat," while another referred to her as "the mother of all almond moms," a term used to describe parents who force disordered eating habits on their children. Paltrow responded to criticism by blaming "very high levels of inflammation" and prolonged Covid for her wellness advice, which has since been referred to as a "starvation diet".
