LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Euphoria' stars Dominic Fike and Hunter Schafer have reportedly ended their off-screen romance. Fike, 27, recently confirmed the breakup, revealing that he and Schafer, 24, are no longer dating.
Fike, who joined the cast of 'Euphoria' in its second season, revealed that he is currently single during an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe. The actor candidly expressed his decision to step away from relationships at the moment, explaining that he has previously been involved in public relationships and now feels it's time to take a break from that aspect of his personal life.
Why did Dominic Fike and Hunter Schafer break up?
"I'm just done being in relationships right now and I've always been in these public relationships," Fike said, adding, "It's not that hard to not date another f**king famous person." The singer-songwriter insinuated that he's done dating other celebrities for now. "Every time I go through a breakup now, I gotta see somebody on a damn billboard," he said in the interview, referencing Schafer, who he was confirmed to be dating in early 2022. The former couple, who met on the set of 'Euphoria' Season 2, sparked dating rumors in January 2022 after being spotted holding hands during a date
Fike also revealed that he used to view love as a necessity, but now he wants to take time alone to break free from that "loop." "That has actually bled into my romantic relationships, that kind of dynamic," he admitted, continuing, "And it is often the cause of the end of my relationship."
'I could make music around her'
Reflecting on his past relationship with Schafer, Fike shared that their time together was filled with enjoyable moments. He expressed how being with her made him realize that he didn't want to be alone. "I could make music around her, which was crazy," he said, adding, "I was looking through songs the other day and found one that I made with her. I was like, 'Man, that was so cool.' But the fact of me saying that — of being uncomfortable being alone — that's a bad thing. So, I decided to just be alone for a while." When questioned about the possibility of working with his ex on the third season of 'Euphoria', Fike expressed his belief that there would be no tension between them. "I have a better dynamic with everybody," he said before clarifying, "Well, almost everybody." "I think it'll be fine. We're all adults kind of. I'm trying," he added.
Dominic Fike was almost fired from 'Euphoria'
During the interview, Fike made a revealing admission, sharing that he was "almost" removed from the hit show due to filming some of his scenes while under the influence of drugs. "I was a drug addict, and coming onto a show, you know, (that's) mainly about drugs is very difficult," he said. "I was reprimanded for it," Fike added, continuing, "I almost, you know, got kicked off the show. They were like, 'Bro, you cannot be doing this.'" "I was heavily addicted to so many drugs," he confessed before saying, "Trying to make a f**king album in the midst of that much pressure, the drugs, my family being insane, and me being insane, was impossible."
