LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Carol McGiffin, a former cast member of 'Loose Women', has criticized Greta Gerwig's new 'Barbie' film as actors Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling continue their extensive press tours. The brutally honest broadcaster Carol claims that all she has learned about the upcoming movie has "offended her more than anything."
The former ITV star also criticized Margot Robbie's selection for the starring part as America's favorite doll, claiming that UK actress Katie Price would have been a far better choice. Early reviews for Barbie have been very good, and several commentators have asserted that Ryan Gosling may be nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Ken. However, Carol, 63, expressed in her most recent piece that she does not have the same opinions.
'Everything about the new movie offends me'
Carol wrote in the Best magazine,"I have nothing against Barbie, the Seventies doll, but everything about the new movie offends me like nothing has before and I've not seen it, nor will I. Because you just know that even though she was an icon of an age gone by, Hollywood will somehow turn her into a professional feminist." She added, "And Margot Robbie so miscast. The obvious person to play the plastic, out-of-proportion doll with the pink house was Katie Price!"
In the film, Mattel's dolls are shown as they may behave if they were fully left alone with no contact with actual people. However, when they travel to what is purported to be the actual world in their automobile that spins about in the air, their lives are completely upended. Despite earning a lot of accolades, author Greta Gerwig admitted she was frightened to start the project after Margot Robbie and Warner Bros bought the movie's rights, as reported by Mirror.
'It's not like a superhero, who already has a story'
She told The Guardian, "It's not like a superhero, who already has a story. It felt very much like it was going to be an adaptation, Except what we were adapting is a doll – an icon of the 20th century." Gerwig also had her sights set on Timothée Chalamet and friend and co-star Saoirse Ronan making cameos, even as Gosling and Robbie were cast in the lead roles. In 'Little Women', a 2019 coming-of-age film, was the last project on which Gerwig collaborated with Chalamet and Ronan.
