BUDAPEST, HUNGARY: The National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hungary, will host the nineteenth edition of the World Athletic Championship from August 19 to August 27. The competition will feature a number of well-known and talented competitors from around the world, including World pole vault record-holder Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis.
The 23-year-old Duplantis who was born to an American pole vaulter father and a Swedish long jumper mother has long been regarded as an athlete who excels in men's pole vaulting. But not many would have predicted that his rise would end with him smashing the world record so swiftly. The pole vaulter decided to represent the nation of his mother worldwide. He reportedly earned the under-18 title in 2015, just four months shy of turning 16 years old. Just two years later, he smashed the under-20 world record, clearing of 5.90m. This was when he caught the eye of the legendary Sergey Bubka.
Who is Amand Duplantis dating?
Mondo set age-group world records every year between the ages of seven and twelve, all of which are still in effect, after learning to vault as a young child in his living room with a broomstick. The master vaulter earlier spoke about his idol which sources like the Olympics and Word Athletics mentioned as Renaud Lavillenie. "I loved the way he pole vaulted. I kind of always wanted to jump like him," Duplantis stated in 2017. He traveled to Clermont-Ferrand that winter in order to practice with the French Olympic champion for a few days.
The world-leading athlete is quite busy off the field. The reigning European champion is reportedly currently dating a Swedish model, Desiré Inglander. The pair have been dating each other for nearly a year and frequently post cute couple photos on their social media profiles. They reportedly first met on Midsummer Eve, one of Sweden's most significant annual events. "It's true, I found love. We first met on Midsummer Eve last year and were together until the end of summer, and now it's probably gotten more serious," Armand Duplantis was reported as saying in February 2021 by Newsbeezer.
'Very beautiful and cool person'
Duplantis continued by describing the effect the relationship had on his life. "Of course it makes a difference to me as a person, but I don’t know if it affects me as a pole vaulter. Maybe I’ll be better, we’ll see. That’s the way life should be, you meet new people and experience new things," he said to Swedish newspaper, Aftonbladet. The athlete called Desiré Inglander "a very beautiful and cool person" and said he was taken in by the Swedish model's charm. The 19-year-old model is currently represented by Voce Model Agency in Istanbul and London.
'I film every jump and then send it'
Desiré had to sit in the audience when Mondo continued the season without either of his parents, Helena and Greg, serving as coaches. "I film every jump and then send it directly to Greg and Helena, said Desiré to the Swedish outlet. "Then they text back if they think any detail should be changed. That's all I do and all I can do. Some people think I'm some kind of expert, but I've never done athletics myself and have no idea."
