Jim Carrey isn't returning to make Grinch sequel, despite rumours
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) is a certified Christmas classic, and recently there was a lot of excitement when rumours began to swirl that Jim Carrey was reprising the role of the green grouch. However, despite these reports about a sequel to the festive film, it seems that Carrey has no plans to revisit the iconic character. The rep for the 61-year-old actor told People that the rumoured reports are inaccurate. "There is no truth to Jim reprising his role as the Grinch in a sequel to The Grinch," Carrey's rep said. To play the role in the adaptation of Dr. Seuss's 1957 book, Carrey was covered head-to-toe in green fur as well as prosthetics which was so uncomfortable for the actor that he was trained by a CIA torture expert to endure wearing it on set. All in all, the process of transforming into the Grinch took eight and a half hours in total, according to Carrey who compared the makeover to "being buried alive every day” while head make-up artist Rick Baker said it took around two and a half hours. "Literally the makeup was like being buried alive everyday," Carrey said when he appeared as a guest on The Graham Norton Show back in 2014. "I went back to my trailer and put my leg through the wall, and I told [director] Ron Howard I couldn't do the movie. Then [producer] Brian Grazer came in, and being the fix-it man, came up with a brilliant idea to hire a gentleman who is trained to teach CIA operatives how to endure torture. And so that's how I got through 'The Grinch." The expert gave him the following advice: "Eat everything you see. If you’re freaking out and you start to spiral downwards, turn the television on, change a pattern, have someone you know come up and smack you in the head, punch yourself in the leg or smoke as much as you possibly can." Meanwhile, this along with Carrey saying during interviews for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 last year that he was "retiring" from acting after a career spanning four decades. "It depends," he told Access Hollywood. "If the angels bring some sort of script that's written in gold ink, that says to me that it's going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road. But I'm taking a break." "I really like my quiet life, and I really love putting paint on canvas, and I really love my spiritual life, and I feel like — and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists – I have enough," he added. "I've done enough. I am enough." So there you have it no Grinch sequel, unfortunately. I'm a Celebrity viewers want Nella Rose voted off first following Fred Sirieix clash
A growing number of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! viewers are plotting to vote out Nella Rose on social media following a clash with Fred Sirieix. Tuesday’s (November 21) episode saw YouTuber Nella, 26, argue with the First Dates star over a comment he made about their respective ages. Fred, 51, made a remark about her being old enough to be Nella’s dad. While the comment appeared to be completely offhand, Nella took issue as the pair had a heart-to-heart early on in the competition about her dad passing away. As a result, she spoke in the Bush Telegraph and said: "I didn't say anything about it last night because I was kind of just annoyed about it. So I slept on it and I kind of thought about it, and I was just like, this is not the kind of person I want to be around." After Nella ignored him, Fred asked her what was wrong. She said: "You know that my mum's dead, and you know that my dad's dead. You know that, right? I've come to find out that every time I wanna get creative around the fire, or I want to have something my way, my own food that I am entitled to, my way, you tend to get an attitude, right? "So yesterday, when I wanted to burn fat that you were going to throw away anyways. It's not even something that we needed to survive in camp. You turned around to me, with an attitude and said: 'You know I could be your dad, right?' To me, I don't care how you said it to me, it's disrespectful, and I don't want to talk to you. I don't want to be around you. I only allow people to disrespect me once." Nella added: "You hurt my feelings. I was very upset. You keep trying to speak to me when I don't want to speak to you. I would rather stay away from you. I don't want to eat your food, I don't want to talk to you. We can just live. You live on that side, I live on this side." Fred apologised by saying: "I am so sorry. Can I just say? First of all, I am sorry I've offended you. I am unaware that you felt offended. I am unaware that what I said would lead to this conversation, I only said that in a way because I am older than you. I am 51, and you're 26." He added: "Either I made a mistake and I said something and I offended you. I'm really sorry. I'm really sorry you feel like this.” She didn’t seem to want to resolve the situation after his apology, saying: “You only get one chance to disrespect me. I accept your apology, but let's not be friends. How about that?" Now, people on social media have voiced their feelings on Nella, claiming that she 'overreacted' to the situation and pledging to vote her out of the show. Emily Maitlis responds to casting of her in Prince Andrew drama: 'Blimey'
Emily Maitlis has reacted to the casting choice of the BBC and Amazon drama 'A Very Royal Scandal' based on her infamous 2019 interview with Prince Andrew. Michael Sheen is set to play the controversial royal and Ruth Wilson is taking on the role of the former Newsnight presenter, with production already underway, Variety reported. The three-part drama, aptly titled “A Very Royal Scandal will follow “Emily Maitlis’s professional and personal journey as a Newsnight journalist, leading up to her acclaimed interview with Prince Andrew.” Back in 2019, the 58-minute programme saw Prince Andrew being put in the hot seat over his relationship with the American convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Following the interview, Prince Andrew stepped back from royal duties and in 2022 he paid a financial settlement to his alleged victim and accuser, Virginia Giuffre. When news of the casting broke, Maitlis herself took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the casting choice which she appears to be impressed with. "Blimey. First time I’ve seen this in print. What an exceptional cast," she wrote. "A Very Royal Scandal" comes after the success of previous dramas “A Very English Scandal” starring Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw and “A Very British Scandal” starring Claire Foy and Paul Bettany. Meanwhile, this isn't the only adaptation of the notable interview set to hit our screens in the future. It was announced last year that a film will be made called "Scoop" starring Rufus Sewell and Gillian Anderson, and written by Peter Moffat which is set to be released on Netflix. The six most controversial I'm a Celebrity recruits as Farage joins jungle
Nigel Farage’s appearance on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here this year has been hotly anticipated, with the divisive Brexiter reported to be earning a whopping £1.5m to go on the show. However Farage, 59, is only the most controversial contestant to enter the jungle since, well, last year’s edition of the show. Producers of the hit ITV series, which entered its 23rd edition last night, have made quite the habit of getting contentious names to do Bushtucker trials. Here are the six most controversial. Matt Hancock Matt Hancock resigned as health secretary in disgrace in 2021, after it emerged he had broken his own Covid-19 lockdown guidance by kissing his aide, Gina Coladangelo, at work. Eighteen months later, the man who regularly appeared on our lockdown TV screens telling us to “stay at home” was back on the telly, doing I’m A Celebrity. His appearance in the jungle caused quite a stir, with campmates grilling him over his response to the pandemic. He also sparked hundreds of Ofcom complaints during his 30 days in the jungle. Whether it was a success or a failure is debatable. Hancock came third, earning a reported £320,000 for his stint on the reality show. However, he also lost his place in the Tory party, and drew criticism from the Prime Minister and MPs across the political spectrum. Gemma Collins It's not just politicians on this list! Gemma Collins, star of The Only Way Is Essex, just couldn’t hack it, and only made it three days in the jungle. At the time the 41-year-old said “jungle life is not for me” and quipped that “people who murder get treated better than this”. Viewers in 2014 were left disappointed after Collins gave them several memorable moments. That included stating the obvious while talking to another campmate about her reasons for leaving. “I’ve found it really difficult,” she told another campmate. “I love myself too much to put myself through this.” Stanley Johnson Remember the days when Boris Johnson was just a bumbling former mayor of London who fronted the Vote Leave campaign? That was when his father, Stanley, went on I’m A Celebrity in 2017, aged 77. Stanley is a former Conservative MEP himself, and was the oldest person ever to go on the show. He sparked a friendship with Georgia “Toff” Toffolo, of Made In Chelsea fame, and made it 18 days into the show. Speaking about his experience last year, Stanley said: “Get your hand up quick – Ant or Dec, I was never able to distinguish between them – they come in and… you’ve got to get your hand up because if you don’t, you miss the chance to eat a bull’s testicle for example.” Gillian McKeith Gillian McKeith was an iconic contestant on I’m A Celebrity, partly because she just kept getting voted in to do Bushtucker trials. The TV personality rarely succeeded in winning any stars and even fainted during one of the trials – but the public were undeterred. Perhaps it was something to do with her pseudoscientific ideas around nutrition, which include the detox diet, colonic irrigation (you don’t want to know), and examining people’s poo to work out their illnesses. It’s also worth pointing out that she has no qualifications in nutrition or medicine, and until 2007 used the title “Doctor” on her TV shows. Since going on the show, she has also been slammed for promoting Covid-19 conspiracy theories and anti-vaccine views. Yikes. Nadine Dorries Nadine Dorries was the first sitting MP to make it onto I’m A Celebrity in 2012, meaning she has a lot to answer for. She starred alongside boxer David Haye and Pussycat Dolls singer Ashley Roberts, but only made it 11 days into the show before getting voted off. However, Nads’ controversy didn’t stop there. She was suspended from the Tory party when she got back to the UK for failing to tell the Conservative chief whip of her plans to appear, and failing to declare the fees she received. She said of Farage’s entry into the jungle: “I think Nigel will do very, very well. “He’s got the chutzpah, he’s got the personality, I think he’ll do very well.” Lembit Opik Liberal Democrat MP-turned-serial reality TV star Lembit Opik was voted off I’m A Celebrity early in its 2010 series. That was not before both he and Shaun Ryder were bitten by a snake during a Bushtucker trial, however. While he wasn’t too popular on the show, he also made it onto celebrity editions of The Apprentice and Come Dine With Me. Some people just love the grift, it seems. 'Tragic' - Fans fume as Glastonbury 2024 tickets sell out within an hour
Hopeful festival goers joined together in unity this morning to celebrate the great British tradition of queueing for another great British Tradition: Glastonbury Festival. Tickets for the 2024 edition of the yearly music festival went on sale this morning, with tickets costing £360 (£355 with a £5 booking fee per ticket). Music-lovers had to drop £75 on a deposit today before fronting up the rest of their balance in the first week of April 2024. Frantic users joined the 9am GMT queue and waited - but that was far from the end of the story. Fans speculated that tickets would sell-out fast, pointing to the fact that Coach tickets to Worthy Farm sold out on Thursday within just 25 minutes. Thankfully, they lasted quite a lot longer than that - 58 minutes to be exact. Those 58 minutes though, for a lot of people, were spent waiting on the 'screen of death.' Before hopefuls could purchase their ticket, they had to brave the aforementioned Glastonbury ticket queue - a holding page on a timer that automatically refreshes on 20 seconds (or thereabouts) before redirecting the user into a ticket purchasing window, or back into the holding page - or even worse, onto the 9:58am notice saying that tickets have sold out. It was an ordeal. Despite the lucky many who received tickets after waiting in the queue, there were just as many queuers who left empty-handed. And of course, a lot of people left enraged by the waiting room and the technology behind it. This isn't the end though - fans will have one more chance to buy tickets at a resale in the Spring for cancelled or returned tickets. As anyone who joined the queue at 9am and bagged a ticket knows, there's always a bit of hope. As anyone who joined the queue at 9am and was booted out with the 'screen of death' knows, it's the hope that kills you. Nigel Farage has already escaped I'm a Celebrity Bushtucker trials
TV viewers hoping to put ex-Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage through the wringer in the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! jungle might be in for some disappointment. The right-wing firebrand is part of this year's edition of reality show that places celebrities into the Australian jungle, with Farage taking the (what seems to be) yearly role of the jungle politician in need of image rehabilitation. It was the expectation that Farage would be the public's pick to take on the infamously grueling Bushtucker Trials this year (with a number of online critics noting that success in this trials would soften the public towards him), however there's an issue. The former UKIP leader has already said he's out of the running when it comes to certain trials, due to past injuries. "Well, anything involving weightlifting, I'd be out because I've obviously had some quite serious physical injuries and neck reconstructions and goodness knows what else," said Farage to The Sun. "So they are fully aware that I'm a little bit damaged when it comes to bodily structure. But having said that, I can still do most things." The culprit behind the serious injuries that Farage is alluding to was a bad plane crash back in 2010 that left him with a punctured lung, chipped vertebrae, a fractured sternum, and several fractured ribs - Farage would later state that these injuries stopped him golfing, bar a brief advert for Paddy Power. He's still chipper about doing some of the trials, though. "I doubt that any of the trials are actually going to kill me, although I don't think they'll all be a bag of fun. "I signed up for this. It's in for a penny in for a pound. So let's go." The public will certainly try and get their money's worth with Farage - the highest paid star in I'm A Celeb history- even if he won't end up doing every trial he is nominated for. That's if he isn't voted off first. How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up to our new free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Taylor Swift fan dies at Brazil concert drawing widespread criticism of the venue
A Taylor Swift fan tragically passed away before the pop star's concert in Brazil last night due to the heat in the venue. 23-year-old Ana Benevides passed away before the concert, believed to be caused by dehydration and heat exhaustion - although this has not been confirmed. Swift put a statement on her Instagram story about the loss. "I can't believe I'm writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show. I can't even tell you how devastated I am by this. There's very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young," Swift wrote. "I'm not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it. I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil." Attendees of the concert revealed that they were not allowed to bring water bottles inside and the venue did little to provide water and other safety measures once people had entered the venue. Fan Monica Bertha shared a video she had taken at the concert where Swift is seen checking on fans to make sure they're receiving water. "It's very hot so if somebody says they need water when it's this hot they really need it," Swift can be seen saying to the crowd. @mobertha Queen Tay stopping the concert to make sure fans get water🥹 #taylorswift #erastour #riodejaneiro #rioerastour Another clip has also gone viral showing Swift herself picking up water bottles mid-performance and throwing them into the crowd. The venue - Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos - is facing calls to allow fans to bring in water to stop something like this ever happening again.
