Alison Hammond had the perfect response to Cliff Richard 'fat shaming'
Alison Hammond had the perfect response after Cliff Richard fat-shamed another celebrity on This Morning. Fatphobia and fat shaming are unfortunately common, but people are becoming better at calling it out when they see it. On ITV’s daytime breakfast programme This Morning, presenter Hammond was forced to call out fat-shaming comments made by Richard live on air during an anecdote about fellow singer Elvis Presley. The awkward moment came when Richard explained he had the opportunity to meet and have a picture taken with the iconic rock and roll performer shortly before he died. Richard explained he declined the photo because Elvis had “put on a lot of weight”. Richard continued: “I thought, ‘if I’m having a photograph taken with [Elvis] and it’s going to be hanging on my refrigerator, he’s got to look good’. And I put it off and, of course, then he died.” Hammond clapped back instantly, saying: “You should never have put it off just because they’re a little bit heavier.” Failing to read the room, Richard then explained to viewers that they should take the chance to meet people they are a fan of, “even if they’ve put on weight”. “Is that why you don’t want me at your house?” Hammond followed up before quickly moving the conversation on. Hammond has previously been open about her weight struggles and was widely praised for not letting Richard’s comments go unnoticed. “Well done @AlisonHammond. Fat shaming is not to be promoted #ThisMorning,” one viewer wrote. Another said: “Cliff Richard fat-shaming Elvis on @thismorning with no shame even when put in his place (far too politely) by the Goddess @AlisonHammond. YUK.” “How rude was Cliff Richard on #ThisMorning today - he said it comes easy to him to be nice, then in the next breath said he didn't want a photo with Elvis because Elvis had put on weight. “Glad Alison Hammond was there to embarrass him. I've gone off Cliff now, shallow t***,” said another person. Another argued: “The only positive thing about that interaction was how deftly Alison Hammond dealt with it.” How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up to our free indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Harry Styles' mum defends her son's new buzzcut look
Harry Styles broke the internet when photos emerged of his new buzzcut, and it provoked a mixed reaction in his fanbase - but now his mum has jumped to his defence. There have been a number of memes and comparisons that have circulated online in reaction to Styles shaving his head - for example his likeness being compared to Ian Beale from EastEnders. It's clear this attention hasn't unnoticed by the mother of the 'As It Was' singer, Anne Twist who took to Instagram to support her son and urged fans to TPWK [Treat People With Kindness] - which also a popular phase and song from Styles. In an Instagram post, Twist wrote: “When you consider that H has a legacy of kindness and inclusion, has always made every effort to make everyone feel seen and appreciated for exactly who they are... there’s an irony in the negativity he’s been shown for having a haircut." “Sorry but I don’t get it," she added. The post included a clear snap of Styles with his shaved head, followed by a screenshot of a New York Post headline that reads: "Harry Styles fans shocked over shaved head reveal: ‘Ruined my entire life’." “Let’s uncrap that,” Twist’s image reads, as underneath the headline is changed to “Breaking news: It’s hair! It’s his! Also it will grow back. If he wants.” Since sharing the post to her 2.6m followers, fans of Styles have shared their support in the comments. One person said: "Love it, any mom would feel the same. Such a talented young man, Harry has it all! Move forward with pride, ignore the negative!" "Fr it's just hair, chill people. He's on a break! Let him chill," another person agreed. Someone else added: "Why judge him just for a haircut? It’s his life, his hair, his decision. Sadly people lost the actual message of Treat People With Kindness." "TELL THEM ANNE!!!! a lot of noise considering this guy just wants to quietly get on w his life of joy and love and kindness," a fourth person commented. Suki Waterhouse confirms she's pregnant with Robert Pattinson's child during concert
Singer Suki Waterhouse revealed she is pregnant with Robert Pattinson’s child during her concert. The British singer and model confirmed the couple’s happy news while on stage at the Corona Capital Festival in Mexico City this past weekend. During her performance, Waterhouse addressed the crowd and jokingly explained that her outfit choice was to distract from her obvious baby bump. Waterhouse told the crowd: “I thought I’d wear something really sparkly today because I thought it might distract you from something else that’s going on. I’m not sure if it’s working.” The crowd began to cheer as she gestured towards her bump. The clip of the sweet reveal went viral online as people offered Waterhouse and Twighlight actor Pattinson their congratulations. The pair have been together for five years and are now due to become first-time parents after Waterhouse announced the news to her fans in the “cutest” of ways. Someone else commented: “Omg this makes me so happy for her and Robert.” How to join the indy100's free WhatsApp channel Sign up to our free indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy.
