CAIRO, GEORGIA: 'Welcome to Plathville' star Moriah Plath took to Instagram to share personal moments from her baptism by her father, Barry Plath. However, the TLC star was quickly mocked by fans, who recommended she pursue medical healing instead of returning to her faith.
Moriah has reached "rock bottom" with her family's constant conflict, prompting her to make a major life decision. Moriah revealed to her father, Barry, in an earlier episode of the TLC series that she wanted to be baptized, a choice that came as a surprise following her years of defiance.
"I've tried to do this alone for years, and there's no way I'm going to be able to get through this without Jesus," Moriah said in the episode.
"Yeah, you can't walk it alone," Barry said. "He wants to walk with you, right?"
Moriah stated in a confessional that she was baptized as a child, but had no idea what it meant.
"I was baptized when I was younger, like 8 or so," she said.
"My sisters were getting baptized, and I wanted to get in the pool too. Just looked fun. So I got baptized, and I just didn't understand. It wasn't a choice that I really made for myself. It was just because that's what everybody was doing. That's all I knew. And God never felt real in my life until I hit rock bottom. Until I realized I can't do it alone."
Moriah revealed to her father that she was as surprised as he was.
"I just can't believe this," she said. "Like, I never thought that I'd be crawling back on my hands and knees.
Like, 'Jesus, I need you.' But I was so proud and just thought I could do it all on my end."
"Early on, you know, we just raised our children, you know, to love God," Barry said in a confessional.
"But you know, they chose their own path. And for a short time, they did their own thing. But now, with Mariah, she's back. She's back with God. So it's awesome to see," he added.
On September 21, Moriah again took to Instagram to share a BTS from the moment she wrote, "I spent my life searching for freedom, all I talked about was getting out, running, and finding happiness somewhere else. I would always say “I want to be free, I want to find myself, I’m working on loving myself” I was searching for happiness in all the places I thought would fill the void in my heart but I was so so lost. Until the day I realized true happiness and freedom starts within. It was hard to love myself without being able to accept that I am loved! After years of chasing freedom in all the places that left me more empty and depressed then ever, I accepted Jesus as my savior and gave my life to him. I still have my struggles, but I don’t face them alone anymore. I’m not perfect, I’ve carried the weight of every wrong I’ve done until I decided to leave it at the cross realizing God knew I wasn’t perfect and that’s why he sent his son to die for us!"
She went on to call herself "I’m a forgiven rebel!"
Fans quickly took to the comment section, "Girlie have you tried therapy because that’s gonna work much better than baptism."
Another person chimed in, "Didn’t we watch you unravel all of this awful indoctrination and now you’re back."
Others called it, "And the cycle of shame and guilt continues." A fourth user commented, "Forgiven for what? Wearing makeup? Lol."
One person further wrote, "This isn't going to fix your problems." Another person added, "Just shows you’re still very confused. Therapy will help.
Some felt, "Ick. His hand placement creeps me out. Unnecessarily high."
A user also mentioned, "People that get re-baptized are part of a cult .. they think they are better then others they think they know more then others all just because you pull excerpt out of a bible and manipulate it to fit your life situation … That is not finding god that’s finding a cult."
Moriah Plath calls Barry Plath her 'role model'
Moriah paid tribute to how much her father, Barry, meant to her in an emotional Instagram post on May 30, 2023.
"This man right here sets a very high bar for men in my life!" "I never realized how important a father's role in his daughter's life was until I started restoring my relationship with my dad," she began in the caption, which showed her father seated across the table from her as they had coffee.
"My dad has grown so so much as a person and father and it’s changed my life. I guess the best way to put it is I’m secure! I feel priceless, and I am the most confident in who I am than I have ever been in my life," Moriah said.
"He’s shown me the meaning of unconditional love. He’s my go to person every time. He’s the one I call when I don’t know what to say and he gets me. He’s my role model which says a lot cause I don’t wanna be like anyone but me lol. I’m proud to call him Dad!" the reality star said.
