Why did Sinead O'Connor cry in 'Nothing Compares 2 U'?
Touching the hearts of millions with her unique voice, Sinead O'Connor also connected with her fans on an emotional level. Especially, after her iconic cover 'Nothing Compares 2 U' was out and she was seen crying in the promo. "I didn't know I was going to cry when I sang in the video because I didn't cry in the studio recording it,” she said, adding “I think it happened because there was a big eye on me (camera) recording me. “Every time I sing that song I think of my mother. I never stop crying for my mother. I couldn't face being in Ireland for 13 years because of it.”
O'Connor added, “I cut myself off. I never called home and it took me 25 years to stop crying. I was thinking of her my subconscious was also thinking of that little girl out in the garden." She added, “I think it's funny that the whole world fell in love with me because of that crying in the video. I then went and did lots of crying and everyone said 'you crazy bitch' but they fell in love with that tear because it was a mirror on themselves."
O'Connor got into trouble when she tore the photograph of Pope John Paul II
O'Connor got herself into trouble after she tore the picture of Pope John Paul II on TV show Saturday Night Live in the US in 1992. Her former publicist Elain Schock shared how she may have ruined her career with that one move during the peak of her career. "Nobody knew what to do. My blood ran cold blood. She (Sinead) goes off stage, goes into her dressing room and she was happy that she had pulled this off,” she said. "I had gone into the dressing room afterwards and said to her 'I cannot get you out of this' and she said 'Do you know what? I don't want you to," she added.
The singer later explained, "There were things going on in my own life. Things I was discovering that my mother had done I didn't know about. And I had come across an article about families who had been trying to lodge complaints against the Church for sexual abuse and were being silenced, basically f*****g everything I had been brought up to believe was a lie."
