NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Nina Dobrev recently revealed why she rejected a major role in The CW's award-winning series 'Boardwalk Empire.' Nina got the show's offer all the way back in 2009 when she was starring in the popular series 'The Vampire Diaries.'
'Boardwalk Empire required me sign a nudity clause'
Nina appeared for a promotional interview for her upcoming Netflix comedy film 'The Out-Laws' on 'Live with Kelly and Mark' The co-hosts were talking about Nina's debut in Hollywood and her previous projects as an actress when the conversation turned to 'Boardwalk Empire'
Nina confessed that it was hard to choose between the two offers of 'The Vampire Diaries' and 'Broadwalk Empire.' "I wasn’t allowed to test for both Vampire Diaries and Boardwalk Empire," she said, "And I didn’t know, like, how do you make a decision?" she added.
Then, the actress said that the dealbreaker ended up being a particular clause in the latter show's contract that she couldn't quite agree with. She told Kelly and Mark, "I think the thing that ended up being the deciding factor was that, I was 19 or 20, and Boardwalk Empire required me sign a nudity clause." The show did not kick off with any erotic or nude scenes but it was still made an important part of the contract. Nina said, "But it wasn’t in the script. It was like, at some point, there might be nudity and you’ll have to do it."
Nina Dobrev felt dejected over the missed opportunity
After almost 14 years, Nina still seems to be quite dejected over her younger self rejecting the 'Boardwalk Empire' offer over nudity. She was, of course, not comfortable with it back then and felt herself too young to be showing that much skin on TV.
"Obviously, now in retrospect, I look back on it and I’m like, 'Well, should have done It then.'" The host Kelly Ripa went on to agree with her and said, "If I had your body I’d insist! I’d be doing this show nude! I’d be like, there needs to be a nudity clause at all times!"
Expressing her disappointment over missing the award-winning show, Nina continued, "I was never younger and perkier than when I was 19. So if I was going to do it, I should have done it then."
