NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'Watchmen' actor Billy Crudup is having the time of his life as he recently got married to Naomi Watts. The 'Mulholland Drive' actress confirmed the union on June 10 in an Instagram post. Crudup had sparked surprise and a lot of rumors when he and Naomi were seen together at first. However, his love life may not have shocked fans as another recent revelation about his family ties. It turns out that the 54-year-old is related by blood to 'America's Got Talent' host Terry Crews. The duo learned about it when they appeared on the PBS Ancestry show 'Finding Your Roots'.
This shocking revelation comes after 'True Detective' star Woody Harrelson shared his belief that Matthew McConaughey could actually be his real-life brother. The 'True Detective' co-stars are currently considering having a DNA test to find out whether they are related following Matthew's shocking utterance that his mother knew Woody's father when she was separated from her husband, as per The Mirror.
Crews recently met up with Crudup over Memorial Weekend, not merely as actors but as family. The 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' star appeared on the Today Show, on June 15 to talk about the “miracle” meeting with Crudup and his son William, 19, in New York City. Crews himself is father to five children.
'It was one of the most satisfying, wonderful afternoons'
“It was one of the most satisfying, wonderful afternoons I’ve ever spent,” Crews said according to People. “The fact that we are blood relatives, to me, is a statement about what America is. It’s also a statement about humanity. Because we all think, you know, he’s white, I’m Black. But the reality is we are true blood relatives."
Crews explains what 'true family' means to him
Crews said that he and Crudup share a lot of similarities including being born just 22 days apart in 1968 and having successful careers in the field of entertainment. The duo also discussed how Crews’ last name is derived from Crudup. Crews said that "the whole color difference is a myth" when he spoke on what "true family" means to him. “It’s all a myth, because you’d be shocked if you found out who you were really related to, who is really your cousin down the line," Crews continued. "I think we are a true example of the misconception and breaking those misconceptions about true family and what family means. He added, "It was a miracle. I’m not gonna lie. It’s a true miracle."
Crudup was shocked to learn about his blood relation
According to the team on the show, Crudup was shocked to learn on 'Finding Your Roots' that he is related by blood to Crews after "evidence inscribed in the 16th chromosome." “Get out of here! Are you kidding me?” Crudup responded. Crews added on Today that Crudup "is one of the best actors that I’ve ever seen in my entire life, and to know that I’m related ... his talent is incredible.”
