NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: ‘Today’ hosts Al Roker and Craig Melvin were given a lovely surprise by Sheinelle Jones on Father’s Day. They were left emotional and appreciated Jones’ heartfelt gift for them.
The two hosts were given a poem written by Jones along with some typical but widely loved Father’s Day food and drinks. Jones also included Dylan Dreyer, who joined them for the hour, in the poem she penned for the dads.
Sheinelle Jones’ thoughtful poem
Jones red out the poem while sitting in between dads Roker and Melvin from her phone. "You can say a lot of things about these two - Al is like an uncle, Craig is like a bro - Dylan and I both agree it's been truly special watching their relationship grow,” she read.
"Sure, we tease, but they are both witty and kind; they both journal and pray to keep the right state of mind. They're both incredible dads; it's heartwarming to see, if there were a ‘dad of the year’ award, they would tie, at least, according to me. So what do we get them for Father's Day; they don't need a thing, we'll leave it to their spouses to get them a ring.”
Then, Jones announced, "And, Seth, bring out the Birmingham bacon, he buys the good stuff, you know it's true; it's time to end this poem now, happy Father's Day to you and you."
Roker and Melvin pleasantly surprised and grateful
It was clear that the Roker and Melvin were quite touched by Jones’ gift to them. The two hosts showered her with thank you'd and warm hugs as they enjoyed the bacon and bourbon.
While Roker seemed quite emotional over the whole surprise, Melvin did not fail to make everyone laugh at the end.
“That is like the sweetest thing you’ve ever done!” Melvin exclaimed, adding, “At first, I thought it was a joke.
Roker, 68, is father to two daughters and a son while Melvin, 44, has a son and a daughter.
