LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sara Haines has often mentioned her children and motherhood on ‘The View’ in addition to the regular pictures and videos of her family that she shares on Instagram. Haines is a proud mother of three, Alec, Sandra, and Caleb, and is often lauded for being a brilliant parent. However, a part of the ‘Hot Topics’ segment showcased the flipside of the coin.
The topic of discussion on ‘The View’ revolved around being a 'child-free housewife', and Haines was the first co-host who chimed in, after Joy Behar. Haines explained to her co-hosts how her life would look if she didn’t have any children.
‘Just wiping my own butt’
Behar, who moderated Friday’s segment on ‘The View’ introduced the topic to her co-hosts, “On Reddit…Reddit…one of those web pages a man wrote that he went out with a woman that he met on a dating app and she made it clear to him that she was looking for a traditional relationship, you know, whatever that means.” Behar continued, “but to her what it meant is she would be a housewife but without children.” After she explained the topic, she asked her co-hosts whether they would want to be a housewife without any children. Haines responded before Behar could even finish talking, “Sounds amazing.”
Haines earned a laugh from her co-hosts and the audience as she maintained a serious expression. Behar asked, “What would you do all day Sara?” Haines seemed prepared with an answer, “I would probably play tennis, go running, read books. Like, have a meal where people aren’t grabbing at it and taking everything you eat.” Rachel Lindsay, former 'Bachelorette' and guest co-host on ‘The View’ asked Haines, “Would that be enough for you?” Haines, once again, seemed ready to answer, “Too soon, Rachel, too soon. Because the thought of days where I’m not like wiping butts and doing all the things, maybe just wiping my own butt, I don’t know, like get crazy. That actually sounds like a really nice release.”
‘You would play tennis’
Later in the segment, Behar asked each of her co-hosts about being a child-free housewife, “I would like to hear what everybody would do, you would play tennis,” she pointed at Haines, who said, “And read books all the way through, like adult books, not like children’s books.” Haines also mentioned that on vacation, she could spend an entire day reading just books. Behar moved on to the other co-hosts, but the focus of this segment was primarily on Haines, who has the most number of children on the panel.
