LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Rebel Wilson has been the talk of the town ever since she surprised the world with her dramatic weight loss. The actress, who managed to lose more than 75 pounds of weight since 2020, said that her approach to dieting changed after she enrolled in a program about food.
Recently, she has been under fire for remarking on the required calorie intake of people. Wilson has left fans upset over her remarks as they feel like she is promoting an unhealthy diet that is not sustainable for many.
What was Rebel Wilson's comment?
On June 15, while promoting her dating app Fluid, Wilson casually said that she learned something new about calorie intake and that it is not mandatory for people to have 1,500 or 2,000 calories every day. She said, "I learned that you really only need about 600 calories a day." However, she did not clarify whether she follows the 600-calorie diet.
She also said that for her, it is all about portion control and said, "Everyone thinks that you need to eat so much [and] your body needs it, but the truth is your body doesn’t need a lot of calories," as per Daily Mail. She also insisted on the importance of portion control and said, "If you eat right and you eat small portions you’ll be just fine." Even though she clarified that she does not advocate others to follow the same regimen, it has still left fans upset.
'Not taking nutrition advice from her'
Ever since Wilson's comment made headlines, the internet went into a frenzy and claimed that she should not say such things because she is not a dietitian. One Twitter user mentioned, "It will be interesting to see if her weight loss is sustainable'. Another Twitter user questioned the credibility of her words and said, 'When she becomes a college trained dietician I’ll listen to her. Till then, she’s another celebrity with an opinion that holds no bearing with me." A third user was also unhappy with her words, saying, "Ok. Like she should know. Not taking nutrition advice from her." A fourth Twitter user said, "Not only is that imbecilic advice, but if she adhered to that she wouldn’t look like this." Another user said, "600 calories a day is disordered eating." A sixth user sarcastically suggested that Wilson may have had weight loss surgery, saying, "Nothing like an actress, who got famous for being obese, giving out nutrition advice following a ‘dramatic weight loss’ thanks to weight loss surgery."
