BUCHAREST, ROMANIA: Johnny Depp who turned 60 on Friday was wished by his fans as his band Hollywood Vampires kicked off their Europe tour with a concert in front of 40,000 people in Romania on Thursday night. The actor's bandmate Alice Cooper urged his fans to sing "Happy Birthday" for Depp as the clock struck midnight.
“Wow. That’s the largest happy birthday song I’ve ever heard," Depp told the crowd after the rendition as shown in a video of the moment the band shared to Instagram. "Beautiful. Thank you," the actor and musician said as he held his right hand to his heart before blowing a kiss to the crowd.
'60 never looked so good on anyone other than you'
Depp was seen wearing a soft leg cast on his left leg during the performance which marked the band's first show since Depp announced that he had fractured his ankle on May 29, as per People. Before departing for abroad, Hollywood Vampires postponed three of their performances in New Hampshire, Boston, and New York at the time.
The video also received reactions from the fans, some of whom said that 60 never looked good on anyone than him. "Happy Birthday Johnny! 60 never looked so good on anyone other than you! You are HOT as hell!" wrote a fan. Another fan wrote, "60 years old and still better than any two 30-year-olds ever…" Another fan wrote, "It would be even bigger if you could get us all in one stadium at the same time, but there are just too many of us! Happy Birthday, Johnny."
'I’m gonna direct a movie in September'
Before Thursday's show, Depp in an interview with a Romanian television crew briefly broke into his 'Pirates of the Caribbean' character Captain Jack Sparrow while discussing his acting career, work with Hollywood Vampires, and the upcoming movie he's directing, 'Modigliani.' “I’m gonna direct a movie in September," Depp said of the production which is co-produced by Al Pacino and Barry Navidi, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "It’s basically two days in the life of [early 20th-century Italian artist] Amedeo Modigliani… I want to only direct the films that mean something to me or at least something I feel like I can add to," the actor added in the interview.
The band will make up the three gigs it lost due to Depp's leg injury before the end of July when Hollywood Vampire's tour is presently slated to finish. During the band's performance in Bucharest on Thursday night, they also announced the addition of extra tour dates.
