NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Robert Downey Jr had an informal meeting with up with his ‘Oppenheimer’ castmates in New York City and the fans cannot keep calm seeing the photos for reasons more than one. The ‘Iron Man’ actor took to his social media to share photos from the get-together where he met with his co-stars Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Cillian Murphy, and quite unexpectedly, John Krasinski.
However, what could have been a casual meet-up among the co-stars was made extraordinary as Downey Jr teased a special cameo by Krasinski in the film. Netizens naturally went berserk after they deduced that Emily Blunt's husband might be part of the cast, something that hasn't been mentioned even once in the film's endless promos. The ‘Avengers’ star had shared two snaps from the evening spent over pizzas, and captioned it with the words, "Linking up with my Oppenheimer cast mates…”
Creating the hype for 'The Office' star's cameo, he himself added, “wait, is that a Krasinski photo bomb or might there be a surprise cameo???” Fans could not help but wonder after the tease whether the ‘Jack Ryan’ actor will make a surprise appearance in Christopher Nolan’s summer release.
In ‘Oppenheimer’, Cillian Murphy is essaying the role of the titular J Robert Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer helmed the famous Manhattan Project, which was a top secret project to create the world's first atomic bomb, during the Second World War. The character of Lewis Strauss, who was Oppenheimer’s primary antagonist and a former United States Atomic Energy Commission, is played by RDJ.
Is John Krasinski in ‘Oppenheimer’?
There is every possibility that Krasinski will appear in the film. Given ‘Oppenheimer’ is a Christopher Nolan movie with Emily Blunt playing Kitty, Oppenheimer's wife, it wouldn't take much convincing to get Krasinski to do a brief but important cameo. But as of now, there is no 'official' confirmation of Krasinski's appearance in the big-budget summer release. However, fans may get glimpses of ‘The Office’ star often during the press tour as he supports his wife, who he married in 2010. The two are also parents to two daughters - Hazel and Violet.
Krasinski is no stranger to doing a jaw-dropping cameo in multi-starrer films like the one he did for ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’. The film’s director Sam Raimi once revealed in an interview that MCU boss Kevin Feige had the idea of casting Krasinski as the “the smartest man in the world” aka Reed Richards. Raimi said in an interview that, “It’s so funny that [Kevin Feige] cast John because the fans had a dream of who the perfect Reed Richards would be,” before adding, “And because this is an alternate universe, I think Kevin said, ‘Let’s make that dream come true.’ I’ve always really enjoyed all of his performances," as per Comic Book Resources.
'Krasinski is the bomb'
Under Downey Jr's Instagram post, several fans commented about the cameo 'tease'. One comment read, "If I had a nickel for every time John Krasinski was teased for a potential cameo in a movie, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice." Another said, "If Jim from The Office is in it. It must be good." Another said in the same line, "Respect for Jim Halpert ————>." A fan commented on RDJ's choice of words to introduce John Krasinski, ""Photo bomb" interesting choice 💀." Another said, "Krasinski is the bomb." Another 'The Office' fan wrote, "The bomb explodes and the scene cuts to Krasinski looking at the camera! (Theme song from The Office)"
Krasinski himself commented on the post with a cryptic "Jazz hands," fueling further speculation among the fans. Comedian Dane Cook also commented, saying, "photo-oppenheimer," making a play on the phrase "photo bomb" and the name of the movie about the first atomic "bomb". Keegan-Michael Key of 'Key & Peele' wrote, "To the roof of cool kids on a warm night... greetings from the Keys"
As much as the fans are excited to see John Krasinski in the star-studded photo, they are equally surprised to see Cillian Murphy smiling in the photo. Youtuber Brittany Broski said, "I am crying! How did you get Cillian to smile!" Another commented, "Ironman X Thomas Shelby Button👉🏻👉🏻👉🏻." Another fan sounded perplexed as they asked, "What have you done to cillian." Carol Castro commented, "I never seen cillian like this! Wow! A happy time for real 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌." Someone else questioned, "Cilian murphy........ Smiling?" Another credited the 'Peaky Blinders' actor's cause of smile as an effect of 'Barbie', "Cillian can smile like that? It's Barbie effect y'all." A Downey Jr's fan however said, "Cillian is just too happy. Of course he is, he's with RDJ, that man radiate good energy."
