LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Following the release of 'Oppenheimer,' Cillian Murphy responded to fan casting of him as a significant Marvel villain brutally honest. Murphy has been receiving countless compliments from all around for his outstanding performance of J Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan's biographical epic. He has been clamoring to play Doctor Doom in the MCU, and now that he has heard the rumors, Murphy has responded to everyone's requests.
Murphy debuted in the superhero genre long before 'Oppenheimer' and 'Peaky Blinders' by playing the villain Jonathan Crane, also known as the Scarecrow, in all three of Nolan's 'Dark Knight' trilogy films alongside Christian Bale. According to The Direct, the casting of the MCU's 'Fantastic Four' reboot has been an ongoing debate on social media, and Doctor Doom is one of the most prominent villains in Marvel comics.
Is Cillian Murphy going to play Doctor Doom?
During an interview with Josh Horowitz for the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast, the 'Oppenheimer' star replied to queries about whether he would ever take on any comic book role and he specifically addressed fan castings of him as the MCU's new Doctor Doom. Horowitz questioned whether Murphy would ever accept another comic book part or if he felt his work as Jonathan Crane, a.k.a. Scarecrow, in Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy had already satisfied his appetite for the genre.
The 'Peaky Blinders' lead stated that he will read one "if someone sends a script" because "it's always about the script:" Murphy said: "Yeah, I think you’ve answered the question. Yeah, I mean, I’m always… It’s always about the script. So, I’ll read… If someone sends a script, I’ll read it. And you never know what turns up."
He continued by describing how the "unpredictable and wild" aspect of the film industry is "what [he loves]" about it: "That’s what I love about this business. I had no inclination or no idea that that [Christopher Nolan] was going to call me about all of this with. It just happens and that’s that’s the kind of the beauty of this business. It’s so unpredictable and wild."
'He's the perfect Doom'
Marvel and Murphy's fans gushed over the actor's recent remark on the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast about featuring as one of the famous Marvel villains. One fan took to Twitter and exclaimed, "He's the perfect Doom." A third fan explained, "Cillian Murphy as Doom would be the best thing to happen to the MCU." A fourth fan chimed in, "I’d be down for it ngl I never pictured him as victor I always thought of Adam driver but villain would be great cause he was good as a villain before with scarecrow." Someone else added, "YES!!! Cillian Murphy as Doom John Krasinski as Reed Richard And Emily Blunt as Sue Storm."
One more fan comment reads, "I think he would make a great Doom.. if they make it comic accurate AND he is willing to be masked. Not a lot of big actors are willing to have their face covered." Another one tweeted, "I have said since endgame ended that Cillian Murphy should be the next main avengers threat and would be perfect for doctor doom. He would absolutely kill it." One more fan exclaimed, "F**ken caaaaaales it!!! I predicted this the first time I saw him in peaky Blinders!!! He's a perfect choice for Victor Von Doom!" Another one typed, "In his Peaky Blinders role, he played a Gypsy, so he has some basic common knowledge about it. & don’t forget his masked villain role as Scarecrow, so imagine his sinister tone behind a titanium mask."
When will Cillian Murphy join the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Marvel Studios has recently made efforts to choose actors who have backgrounds similar to those of the characters they will portray. In terms of whether Murphy would be willing to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe overall, it seems it would take a really good story along with an excellent filmmaking team. However, no one anticipated Christian Bale would play Gorr in 'Thor: Love and Thunder', so anything is possible. Murphy's most recent film 'Oppenheimer' is currently showing in theaters.
