NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Maui wildfires have turned into the deadliest natural disaster in Hawaii as the death toll keeps rising. While help has reached the islands, the effect of the fires is uncontrollable, and a lot could not be saved by the rescue operations ongoing in the state.
Many people lost their loved ones or homes while they were not present on the islands, one of them being Will Cain.
The 'Fox & Friends' host has finally reached Maui to be closer to his family, who were rescued a few days ago from the devastating wildfires, and share stories of the other survivors affected by the catastrophe.
Will Cain flies to Hawaii to report on the Maui wildfires
Cain and his crew traveled to Hawaii right after he got done with his weekend duties at the studio to report on the fires for the Monday, August 14 news.
However, before flying out to Maui, Cain promised his social media followers that he would bring forth stories about those affected by the Maui wildfires.
"Headed back to Maui. This is a story that I have to share. See you tomorrow on Fox and Friends," wrote the 'Fox & Friends' host in his post on X (formerly Twitter).
Will Cain shares stories of Maui wildfire survivors
Cain didn't take long to share his first story, which he posted on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter). It was about Pastor Kawi Keahi, who lost his church and house in the wildfires.
"I met Pastor Kawi Keahi of Kings Chapel in Lahaina three weeks ago when he baptized by sons in the Pacific. Three weeks later his church (you can see in these pictures before and after) and home are destroyed," wrote Cain.
"Kawi incredibly feels blessed because he has his family. He loaded up the kids, the wife, the pets and drove toward Front Street. When he got there he wanted to turn right back into the heart of Lahaina," added the 'Fox & Friends' host.
Cain continued, "Kawi is at Kings Church in Kahului now along with thousands of other West Maui survivors. And he plans to rebuild in Lahaina," urging his followers to support the Pastor in rebuilding his life in Lahaina.
The second story shared by Cain was of the family of Nessa Vaa, who lost almost everything in the fire, including their home.
"I met Nessa, her husband EJ, their kids, nieces and nephews at church tonight. And then saw them again at Wal-Mart after church! Turns out Nessa went to the same church growing up as my family, Lahaina United Methodist," stated the Fox host about meeting the family.
He continued, "Nessa, who’s worked at the Hyatt for 20 years, told me about first trying to drive and then running from the flames. She says she grabbed up a 2.5 year old who she didn’t know, told her kids to run ahead and not look back, and tore down a fence along with a dozen others to escape," narrating the bravery of Vaa.
"I’ll say, the Vaa’s have no home, they’ve lost so much…but they are such a clearly happy family. A blessed family. Their spirit is inspiring," wrote Cain concluding the post.
Notably, Cain has been associated with a GoFundMe initiative to raise money for the Maui residents affected by the wildfires, and it has already gathered $921,326 of the $1,000,000 goal.
