LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The ‘Today’ show has been a forum for many interesting debates over the years but recently the hosts went into a segment that was not entirely a discussion likely to be held on national television. All the hosts of NBC’s flagship morning show, Carson Daly, Craig Melvin, Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker were present for the POPStart segment of the show which allows for discussion of many pop culture topics of the day.
During this segment, Carson and Craig took the discussion to a not-so-safe territory for television when they started discussing Ryan Reynolds’ new drink for Father’s Day. This sudden deviation from a lively conversation to an awkward and raunchy one made Savannah and Hoda giggle but Al wasn’t entirely interested in it. But what did Carson and Craig speak about that made Al uncomfortable?
‘You lost me there!’
Carson started off the POPstart segment by bringing Ryan Reynolds’ new commercial for Aviation Gin, a brand that he owns and endorses. Carson said on live air, “Ryan Reynolds. It's that time of year again, with Father's Day approaching. He's back with a new commercial for Aviation Gin. He's demonstrating how to mix the holiday cocktail that he calls The Vasectomy.” On hearing the name of the drink, everyone cracked up and chuckled as Carson continued, “And this year, he is getting a little help from Jessie James Decker.” The show then slowly pivoted to show Jessie adding the orange peel to the drink and giving the end a “snip."
Witnessing everyone chuckle, Carson asked, “What's so funny about that?” Al immediately responded, “I don't know.” Craig pitched in and said, “Nothing is funny about that.” Savannah and Hoda couldn’t help but laugh at the comments of their male counterparts. Craig finally addressed the elephant in the room and taking a jibe at the name of the drink, said, “I do not want a vasectomy.” Carson joked, “Isn't that great for Dad's Day? Just needs a little snip.” Al didn’t seem to be interested in the joke between Carson and Craig and yelled, "You lost me there."
Al makes his peers laugh
It was clear that Al didn’t enjoy the vasectomy joke but the 68-year-old meteorologist has a knack for making his peers laugh. In a recent mix-up, Al messed up his words on-air forcing fellow hosts Craig, Savannah, and Hoda to immediately react off-camera. He was explaining the "unusually strong" jet stream currently heading across the southern US and mixed up his words and went back to the hosts immediately after his slip-up. Craig, Savannah, and Hoda laughed at his actions, and even Al couldn’t help but spot the humor in the situation.
