LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix's hit fantasy-action series is about to hit the screens soon. While a significant number of fans are excited to witness Henry Cavill play Geralt of Rivia one last time, some of them are also anticipated to see the characters going through changes and the kind of bond they share with one another.
Season 3 of 'The Witcher' would witness Princess Ciri stepping into adulthood and strengthening her bond with Geralt, who starts reckoning with his feelings and acknowledges his fear deliberately. The third season largely focuses on the relationship shared between Geralt and Ciri as he gets more protective of her. Freya Allen rose to fame at a very young age essaying the role of Princess Ciri and Season 3 would be a testament to her venturing into adulthood.
Princess Ciri's adulthood
Season 3 would witness Geralt's plight to protect Ciri getting intensified. However, with Ciri having the support of both Geralt and Yennefer, the trailer also depicted her getting more acquainted with her powers. Even though she remains under the protection of Geralt, the exploration of her magical prowess would make her capable of defending herself. With Avallac’h from 'The Witcher: Blood Origin" also tracking Ciri, she would need the help of both her power and love to fight. The official character posters of 'The Witcher' showed Princess Ciri yielding a sword and ready to fight.
In the upcoming season, Geralt continues his job of protecting Ciri by taking her into hiding from supernatural beings as he develops a familial bond with her. Esquire reported that there is a possibility of Ciri's sexuality being explored, now that she has grown up. The series showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich confessed that Ciri's sexual awakening has never been explored before in the show as much as it was done in the books, and Season 3 may be heading towards that road.
A befitting goodbye to Henry Cavill
As Cavill has already handed over the mantle of Geralt to Liam Hemsworth, showrunner Hissrich has confirmed that at least Geralt would receive a heroic send-off from the show. The trailer showed the pivotal moment where Cavill's character ditches all sense of neutrality and decides to fight for Ciri and protect her.
Hissrich has confirmed that the contribution of Cavill to the show would not go unnoticed. Hissrich said, 'Geralt’s big turn is about giving up neutrality and doing anything that he has to do to get to Ciri. And to me, that’s the most heroic sendoff that we could have, even though it wasn’t written to be that. Geralt has a new mission in mind when we come back to him in Season Four. He’s a slightly different Geralt than we expected.
'The Witcher' Season 3 Volume 1 starts streaming on June 29, 2023, on Netflix.
