SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: American lawyer Dean E Preston, who serves on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, was called to be fired for allegedly overseeing the devastation of the Californian metropolis.
Former Tesla boss Elon Musk has demanded that the San Francisco congressman be fired after he claimed tourists could reduce the rising thefts plaguing the Democratic-controlled city by not leaving their belongings in vehicles.
In response to an entrepreneur who advocated for the arrest and "public" shaming of thieves who break into cars, Musk tweeted on the social media site X, "Also, Dean Preston needs to be fired."
Dean Preston is a liberal leader addressing economic and racial fairness
As per his official website, Preston was chosen to represent District 5 on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and proudly represents the best neighborhoods in San Francisco.
These include the Tenderloin, Hayes Valley, Fillmore/Western Addition, Lower Pacific Heights, Alamo Square, Japantown, the Haight-Ashbury, North of Panhandle, and the Lower Haight.
Preston, a progressive advocate who was elected in November 2019 and again in 2020, usually tackles the city's pressing problems with racial justice and economic stability.
Having spent 30 years residing in District 5, Preston is a supporter of affordable housing, a parent of a student attending a public school, and a regular Muni commuter.
He has a proven track record of supporting and addressing many of the most significant issues affecting San Francisco residents since assuming office.
Preston established California's sole statewide tenant organization before taking office while practicing as a tenant attorney.
He authored and supported Proposition F in 2018, the city's historic ordinance requiring legal representation for all renters facing eviction.
Moreover, Preston was an early supporter of Proposition C, which addresses the homelessness epidemic by providing twice as much housing and mental health services to the homeless population.
He considers that universal programs like Medicare for All, affordable housing, and free education will enable people to live a dignified, fruitful, and healthy life.
Dean Preston addresses 'San Francisco's car break-ins'
Preston proposed that if visitors were more cautious with their belongings, the city's recent rash of vehicle thefts would be resolved, per Daily Mail.
On Wednesday, September 20, Preston made the following announcement, "San Francisco's car break-ins at the Government Audit and Oversight Committee."
"Car break-ins have vexed our city for a long time, as noted by an intriguing deep dive by @susieneilson of the @sfchronicle a couple of weeks ago."
Preston asserted that he wanted San Francisco to warn visitors not to "leave anything in your car," similar to the 1980s campaign to encourage motorists and passengers to "use seatbelts."
He stated in a post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, "We need as a City to pound in every way possible the message to visitors: do not leave anything in your car. Do this and we'll dramatically reduce car break-ins."
Elon Musk slams Dean Preston and demands he be ousted
In response to a post that advocated for police to use sting operations to arrest burglars, Musk stated, "Absolutely. Also Dean Preston needs to be fired. He is arguably the person most responsible for the destruction of San Francisco."
Musk continued by promising to match an additional X user's $50,000 gift to the "Dump Dean" campaign.
Prior to the pandemic in 2020, when tourism reduced and break-ins decreased by more than 40%, Preston cited statistics showing that there were roughly 20,000 car break-ins annually.
Internet users react to Elon Musk's call to fire Dean Preston
Several online users took to X to assert Musk's opinion and blame the Supervisor for the increasing theft.
Alluding to Musk's tweet, one X user wrote, "As one of the last Republicans in San Francisco, I respectfully agree."
"Agreed! Thankfully there are lots of people working hard to make this happen," agreed another one.
Another X user claimed, "Thank you for stating this. He's our supe. He's horrible in so many ways."
"Dean Preston and Chesa Boudin are perfect examples as to why socialism doesn't work and why voters should never vote for a socialist to elected office," noted another one.
One more user enquired, "As a resident, you answer does not meet my needs. I want to park my car free from fear. If you can't help me do that, why exactly are you in office?"
