LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Court documents reveal Hollywood legend Cher, 77, orchestrated the alleged "kidnapping" of her son Elijah Blue Allman from a hotel room while he was with her daughter-in-law, Marieangela King, attempting to reconcile with her on their wedding anniversary, per Daily Mail.
Elijah, 47, is the younger of Cher's two children and the son of the late rock icon Gregg Allman. He has been open about his lifelong battle with drug addiction, revealing that he began experimenting with drugs as early as age 11. Over the years, his struggles with addiction led him to dark places, and he faced numerous close calls to death.
Marieangela King and Elijah Blue Allman's tumultuous relationship
King, who goes by the name Queenie in the rock band KING, married Elijah in 2013. Despite their differences and challenges, the couple attempted to work on their marriage, even spending 12 days in New York to try to reconcile their relationship.
However, their efforts were abruptly halted when, on the night of their wedding anniversary, four individuals allegedly entered their hotel room and kidnapped Elijah.
According to court documents filed by King, one of the individuals claimed they were hired by Elijah's mother, Cher, due to concerns about Elijah's health.
After the incident, King expressed in her declaration to the court that she was "currently unaware of my husband's wellbeing or whereabouts," but she added that he was in "lockdown at a treatment facility that is undisclosed to me." She concluded her statement with a plea for what's best for her husband.
The situation has cast a spotlight on Cher's tumultuous relationship with her son and daughter-in-law. Cher has reportedly had a contentious relationship with Elijah and King, and their elopement didn't receive her congratulations or acknowledgment. Cher's involvement in her son's life has been sporadic, with long stretches of no communication between them.
Elijah Blue Allman's alarming drug addiction
Elijah's struggles with addiction and his recent living situation at the Chateau Marmont Hotel on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles have raised concerns among hotel staff.
He was regularly seen in front of the hotel appearing disheveled and seemingly under the influence. Cher had even hired a caretaker to monitor his activities and ensure his safety.
The situation reached a critical point when, on September 14, 2022, hotel staff discovered Elijah's lifeless body on the pavement leading to the hotel entrance. "At first he looked like he was dead, but he had in fact passed out," said a witness, as per Daily Mail, adding "The staff picked him up and took him inside."
He was subsequently escorted and is now believed to be in rehab in Pasadena, California. Following the incident, King said, "I understand his family's efforts to make sure he is well, and I want what is best for my husband."
