NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A-list actor Mark Ruffalo was the latest celebrity to join the SAG-AFTRA strike in New York City by standing on picket lines with thousands of other artists. The Marvel star also took to Twitter to call out Hollywood 'billionaires' for 'laughing like fat cats' amid the difficult situation. "How about we all jump into indies now? Content creators create a film & TV-making system alongside the studio & streaming networks? So there is actual competition," the actor asked.
"Then we just do what we always do—create great content & they can buy it, or we take it out ourselves & WE share in those sales. They’ve created an empire of billionaires & believe that we are no longer of value. While they hang out in the billionaire boy summer camps laughing like fat cats, we organize a new world for workers," Ruffalo wrote. "One sure way to strengthen our hand right now is to become very supportive & friendly to all independent projects immediately," he added.
"Push every SAG-AFTRA member to join the ones that get SAG-AFTRA (WGA) WAIVERS immediately. The studios have no competition—this will change that," Ruffalo stated. "Share profits. If the project does well, everyone does well. This will also help our fellow filmmakers “The Crew,” who we love, to keep working. This is also part of #Solidarity. We have to take care of each other. @frandrescher," he concluded.

'It will take real leaders and people willing to participate'
Several social media users took to Twitter to comment on Ruffalo's lengthy thread. "We are so ready for this, but it will take real leaders and people willing to participate in the solution," one wrote. "I don’t live in the USA, but am tired of the same old re-hashed 'blockbusters' and the tired old 'hero solves problem by shooting a gun and blowing shit up' plot lines. PLEASE go to work with the independents because they’re the ones willing to try fresh, new, innovative ideas," another added.
"I think your ideas are very creative and could be useful to you all in this situation, though the best would be to come back to "normal" and listen to your claims, that are just! Or else, you all could show them that you´re creative enough to do something good without them!" a third tweeted. "Mark! Create great content and allow ordinary people to invest," another urged.
Some also called out the actor for his opinion. "Wonder how long they'll be able to hold out with you guys selling them cheap movies filled with stars," one said. "Shut up, Ruffalo. You’ve been squealing for the mainstream long enough just stay over there," another added.
