NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In a recent ‘Today’ episode, the morning show family had a fun-filled, emotional birthday celebration for meteorologist Dylan Dreyer on live TV as co-hosts surprised her with a special gift.
Despite ‘Today’ co-anchors taking playful jabs at each other, they make sure to also celebrate great milestones. On Wednesday, August 2, Sheinelle Jones, Al Roker, and Craig Melvin had a special surprise planned for their co-host Dylan Dreyer on her 42nd birthday. Dreyer returned to the morning show right on time from her family vacation to Italy where she had a joyous time. During the ‘Today 3rd Hour’ segment, her birthday was the hot topic of discussion as her co-hosts couldn’t wait to celebrate and surprise her with a special gift. Dreyer’s oldest son, Calvin, also joined her on the ‘Today’ show, which added more sparkle to her special day.
Dylan Dreyer’s special birthday poem
In a recent ‘Today 3rd Hour’ segment, Roker, Melvin, and Jones celebrated Dreyer’s birthday with a sweet and funny surprise. As the segment approached, Jones exclaimed, “It’s Dylan Dreyer’s birthday!” and the audience applauded for NBC host. Roker chimed in adding, “In honor of your birthday, we have a certain special gift to bring you.” Following that, a production assistant presented a large cake covered in vanilla frosting and colorful sprinkles, specially made gluten-free for Dylan's son, Calvin, who was present in the studio. The mom of three has been focused on her son’s needs, not expecting the surprise at all as she told her co-anchors, “You know what's funny? This is so thoughtful and so sweet, and I knew Cal was coming in with me today. I brought him a gluten-free cookie, birthday cake flavored.” Roker had a sweet response to this as he said, "You can save that because we've got the real deal today!”
Moreover, in celebration of her special day, Jones had prepared a heartfelt poem dedicated to her. Roker said, "It's not a birthday unless Sheinelle creates a poem for you." She shared with Calvin that Jones has a talent as she “makes really good poems for birthdays.” Sheinelle read out the poem she wrote, saying, "Happy birthday Dyl! I thought to myself, 'Should we give her a birthday poem?' Why yes we will. Congrats on another year around the sun. We hope this new year is filled with nothing but fun. With colleagues like Craig, Al, and me, how can it not be?" She continued, "We promise to continue to be your work siblings, which means we sometimes kid and tease with love. We don't always say it out loud but the truth is this team is a blessing from above. So take a moment with this cake and champagne and celebrate the day. Then go home to, 'Mommy can you do this? Mommy, can you do that?' But the truth is, we wouldn't have it any other way. Happy birthday!" The group celebrated with champagne and to top it off, there was a heartwarming message from Dreyer’s husband, Brian Fichera, and their two other sons, Rusty and Oliver. While Rusty was in the middle of eating, he playfully smiled and swatted at the camera. Oliver sweetly chimed in with a "Happy birthday, mama,” and Brian added his own well wishes with a "Happy birthday, Dyl!"
During the celebration, Dreyer shared that Calvin was “begging” to join her at work and had his own birthday wish for her. As they admired how much he had grown, Melvin jokingly remarked, “He’s almost as tall as Sheinelle!”
Dylan Dreyer’s ‘lost luggage mishap’
Meanwhile, Dreyer returns to the morning show earlier this week from her whirlwind trip to Italy with family which brought fun, adventure, and lost luggage. On their way, Dreyer and her family lost thirteen pieces of luggage at Amsterdam airport. She shared about the mishap with her followers and captioned the post, “Family vacation! Little did we know these would be the clothes for the whole trip because our luggage is lost in Amsterdam. We're not in Amsterdam. All that work packing…". Dreyer managed to get through the vacation by wearing her sister-in-law's clothes and her son Calvin's pajamas to bed, and although some of the bags were recovered, her luggage is still nowhere to be found. Nevertheless, she is staying in touch with the airlines to track down and retrieve her bags.
