'Ted Lasso' Season 3 Episode 9 Review: From Richmond taking 'pride' in Colin to Roy overcoming his fear

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Apple TV+’s drama comedy, ‘Ted Lasso’ has been widely regarded as one of the best series to come out in the last few years. For its fans, ‘Ted Lasso’ is right up there with the likes of ‘Succession’ and ‘Barry'. However, that debate is left for the netizens to decide but ‘Ted Lasso’ has time and again shown why it deserves to be put on a pedestal of its own.

In the recent episode titled, ‘La Locker Room Aux Folles', Lasso’s new footballing philosophy is in full swing, making the team better as a unit. However, the team’s captain, Isaac McAdoo seems to be swaying away from becoming a part of this unit. Lately, Isaac learned about Colin’s liking for men which didn’t sit well with him. Isaac felt betrayed by his teammate who kept a secret from his captain. Knowing Isaac, he loves to know everything about the players of his team. Colin’s truth threw him off. Isaac began to give Colin the silent treatment until on match day when a spectator called Isaac a "fa***t," he rushed to the stands to hit him. Isaac was eventually sent off for his behavior but it was in the dressing room where he confronted his team, “What if one of us was gay?” shouting at the top of his lungs. Colin was scared that he would now be exposed and every member of the team will hate him or worse label him as "gay." However, the show took a turn and handled the issue with softness and pride.

AFC Richmond takes 'pride' in Colin

Colin has been leading a dual life in the show, fearing the repercussions if his identity was revealed to the team. Trent Crimm, the man writing the book on the club knew about Colin’s identity but never said a word. Instead, he comforted Colin and suggested that he can’t keep this double act going for long. In the dressing room when Isaac stormed out, Colin took the opportunity and told everyone about his sexual orientation.

To his surprise, everyone stood with him. Initially, they told Colin that it didn’t bother him, they didn’t care about it but it was Ted who stated that all of us do care about it and stand with him. Colin felt unburdened and the team rushed out for the second half to win the game 2-1. Isaac confronted Colin at his house after the game and apologized for his behavior. The duo ended up playing FIFA while Isaac questioned him about what’s it like being gay. The episode proved that before we see these characters as footballers, we must take them for who they are - People, just like us.

Roy Kent overcomes his fear of facing the press

The everlasting anger of Roy Kent was on display again when he was asked to fill in for Lasso in a press conference. However, Roy ditched the presentation, leading Rebecca to reprimand him for his cowardliness. After the game, Lasso was scheduled to attend the press conference but out came Roy who answered all the questions gracefully and with panache including the ones directed to Isaac’s brashy behavior on the pitch. Rebecca was impressed with Roy’s presentation which instilled in him a sense of pride that one feels after overcoming a crippling fear.
