Holzhauer's self-proclaimed game show villain label intrigued numerous fans which he finally dished about during a candid interview.
‘Jeopardy! Masters’ James Holzhauer, the ‘self-described game show villain’
In a candid interview with TV Insider, ‘Jeopardy! Maters’ James Holzhauer dished on what happened behind the scenes and how he got the ‘game show villain’ label. He explained, “When I showed up to Jeopardy! Masters, they asked me what occupation I wanted to be listed. I half-jokingly said game show villain, but honestly, it is kind of true. I backed off gambling a bit”. He continued, This is really how I’m making my money being this television personality. The producers came to me saying: 'We can’t put this. The audience will think we are making fun of you. What if we put a self-described game show villain? Would that be okay?” The ‘Jeopardy!’ champ added, “I like it. It adds something to the equation where it becomes: Who do we root for here?” "It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but there is something to be said about bringing extra personality to the table”, Holzhauer concluded.
James Holzhauer's playful banter with ‘Jeopardy!’ host Ken Jennings
Earlier in May, the TV personality embraced his villain role when he playfully teased host Ken Jennings during a trivia. When co-contestant Matt Amodio, a postdoctoral researcher chose from the category “Author’s Pretty Decent Reviews”, it reads, “The Detroit Free Press said: 'The Mummy' was 'vintage' this novelist; 'elegantly erotic and full of enchanting terror’”. Amodio jokingly replied, “What’s Stoker?” To answer his question, Jennings responded, “I also refer to James as 'elegantly erotic but full of enchanting terror’”. The contestants and studio burst into laughter as Jennings revealed the correct answer, “Anne Rice”. Suddenly, Holzhauer made a snarky remark, “Keep it in your pants, Ken”. He has had his playful banter in other episodes as well where he wrote on his podium, “Stop ducking a rematch, Ken”.
