LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Liam Payne has reportedly been hospitalized after falling ill suddenly.
The former One Direction member and his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, were commemorating their one-year anniversary in a Lake Como villa in Italy when the singer fell seriously ill.
Medical professionals are currently investigating the root cause of his recurring kidney issues, which led to the cancellation of his recent tour.
An ambulance transported the 30-year-old singer to a hospital. He is receiving emergency care and is expected to remain under medical observation for several days.
What's Liam Payne recovering from?
Sources told The Sun, “Liam is in a bad way but he’s in the best place he can be and finally doctors will be able to get to the bottom of what is going on."
“Naturally he is gutted that his and Kate’s trip to Lake Como has been ruined but at least she was there to help him when he fell ill," they continued.
They further stated, “Doctors have warned him not to expect to be signed off to go home for at least another six days."
They added, “They want to do every test possible to understand the issue fully but they now suspect that there has been an underlying issue for a while that has been getting worse.”
Payne had cancelled his tour in August due to a similar illness.
He told his fans in a video, “Over the past week I’ve been in hospital with a serious kidney infection, it’s something I wouldn’t wish on anyone, and doctors’ orders are that I now need to rest and recover."
He added, “I was beyond excited to come play for you guys. To all of you who have bought tickets: I’m so sorry.”
Payne, who shares son, Bear, with his ex-girlfriend Cheryl, revealed in 2023 he spent 100 days in a rehab facility in Louisiana.
He admitted he used to drink heavily and would regularly empty minibars while touring with One Direction before their hiatus in 2015.
