LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Pokimane's career took off due to her passion of gaming, and which helped her build a vast audience of millions of admirers across many platforms, including YouTube, Twitter, and, more recently, Threads. But did only hardwork played a role in her stardom?
Pokimane has risen through the Twitch ranks to become one of the most popular streamers on the platform and the internet, but things could have turned out quite differently for her had she not grown up in North America. Here's what Pokimane said about being a successful streamer.
'It really f***king depends where you are'
During a July 18 Twitch stream, Pokimane took issues with certain streamers who suggested that if you work hard enough, you can make it from nothing, saying that it all depended on where a person originates from.
She said, “It really f***king depends where you are and even the resources available in your country. If I had grown up in Morocco, I would never be the streamer that I am.”
Pokimane claimed that even if she had the same interest in video games and personality, she would not have been the great Twitch figure she is today. She continued, “That’s why I feel like it’s unfair when people say s**t like that, like let’s be real.”
It's difficult to imagine Pokimane not broadcasting on Twitch or being as well-known as she is now, but fortunately, her parents decided to go to Canada. It worked out well for them as well, because she grew into such a content giant at the age of 27 that she was able to pay for her parents' retirement fund.
Pokimane's childhood photos
Pokimane surprised her Twitter followers by posting adorable throwback photos from her childhood. In her tweets, she not only updates her followers on her current activities and emotions, but she also uses the chance to interact with them on a more personal level. She recently surprised her admirers by releasing three childhood images.
Pokimane was dressed like a doll in the first photo, with colorful hair bands and clutching a cute small doll while sitting on a bed. She uploaded an older photo of herself as a newborn wearing a jumpsuit in the second shot. The third image showed her cheerfully greeting deer while wearing a huge cap. These photographs stirred nostalgia and captured the hearts of her community. She posted the pictures with a caption, "Baby me."
