TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA: Ghislaine Maxwell, the former associate of Jeffrey Epstein who was convicted of sex trafficking, has gained admiration from her fellow inmates at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn.
According to a rapper and podcaster who is also incarcerated at the same facility, Maxwell’s resilience and refusal to cooperate with the authorities have earned her respect among the prisoners.
Is Ghislaine Maxwell respected by inmates?
Daryl Campbell, also known as Taxstone, told the New York Post that Maxwell was “highly respected because she didn’t crack, and they had her in the worst part of the jail”.
He said that Maxwell endured “a place where people literally crack. They cop out or they start cooperating with the government as soon as they get there," Campbell who is 38 years old said.
Maxwell’s lawyers have described her jail conditions as “reprehensible and utterly inappropriate”, comparing them to those of the fictional cannibal Hannibal Lecter in the movie 'The Silence of the Lambs'.
Maxwell reportedly complained about rats, maggots, sewer drains, bad food, and intrusive guards in her cell.
Campbell said that Maxwell was moved to a really luxurious unit
Campbell said that Maxwell was eventually moved to “a real luxurious unit”, but did not provide any details. Maxwell was later transferred to a low-security FCI Tallahassee in prison in July 2022 in Florida to serve her 20-year sentence.
She has appealed her conviction in aiding Epstein in finding and grooming girls and young women for him to abuse, alleging errors by the prosecutors and the judge.
Campbell himself was sentenced to 35 years for manslaughter for shooting a rival rapper’s bodyguard at a concert in 2016. He claimed that he acted in self-defense and asked: “What is wrong with protecting yourself?”
Earlier, a report said Ghislaine Maxwell has been making hundreds of petty complaints while serving her sentence at the Florida prison. She had been clashing with bunkmates over trivial matters such as underwear, clothes hangers, and loud sex.
She also reportedly snitched on a bunkmate named 'Batman' who had been transitioning from female to male while locked up. "The cubes don't have doors like regular cells so Batman's girl would just creep in and climb up to the top bunk," an insider told the Daily Mail.
"Max would hear every grunt and moan as she was trying to sleep just a few feet below. The beds aren't bolted down and they can rock from side to side and make a lot of noise."
Why was Ghislaine Maxwell called 'Prison Karen'?
Maxwell also had an issue with Batman hanging boxers and socks over the metal rungs of the bed to dry. "Inmates aren't allowed to have sex so she went and reported Batman to the unit's case manager," the source said to the publication.
She also snitched on two Cuban inmates in March who tried to extort her for $360 worth of commissary items, after they learned she had an "arrangement" with a kitchen worker who gave her extra vegan food.
Like Batman, these two inmates have moved away from Maxwell before serving 47 days in isolation. The repeated complaints earned her the moniker 'Prison Karen'.
