Idris Elba boards an ill-fated flight in the real-time thriller 'Hijack'
Idris Elba is another right guy in the wrong place in "Hijack," a tense real-time thriller in the mode of "24," which follows a hijacked plane from the perspectives of its passengers, their captors and authorities on the ground. Crisp and tense, the seven-episode Apple TV+ series overcomes its slightly claustrophobic premise in a show unlikely to ever be offered as in-flight entertainment.

Taylor Swift fans are selling rainwater collected during stormy concert
Taylor Swift fans are selling rainwater collected during stormy concert
It’s well known that Taylor Swift has one of the most dedicated fan bases in music, and now one of them is trying to cash in by selling rainwater collected during one of her recent shows. Swift took to the stage in bad weather during her show in Foxborough, Massachusettes on Saturday (May 20). The singer braved the elements to serenade her fans and now one of them is looking to make a little cash after collecting some of the rainwater. Instagram account Only In Boston posted an image of an item selling for $250 (£250). Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter The picture shows containers with the words “Taylor Swift rain” and “Gillette stadium” written on them. The question is – is anyone fanatical enough to buy it? It’s not the first time a Swifty has tried to make some quick cash after a concert recently. Last week, people discovered a listing on Depop which listed a pair of contact lenses for a (literally) eye-watering $10,000. The post described the lenses as “contacts that have seen taylor swift eras tour [sic]” – but did eventually take down the listing and clarify it was a joke. It’s impressive just how far fans will go for Swift, though. A devoted dad recently decided to fork out over $21,000 (£16,000) for his daughter and her friends to go to a Taylor Swift concert after their tickets never arrived from StubHub. Whoopi Goldberg blasts millennials who 'only want to work four hours'
Whoopi Goldberg blasts millennials who 'only want to work four hours'
Whoopi Goldberg has become the latest middle aged person to scold millennials for being lazy. The Oscar-winner, who turns 68 on 13th November, said the younger generation “only want to work four hours” and dismissed the idea that it is harder to get on the property ladder now than in previous decades. She said: “Every generation comes and wants to do better than their parents did, but I am sorry, if you only want to work four hours, it is going to be harder for you to get a house. “I feel for everybody that feels this, but I am sorry, we busted our behinds, we had to because we didn’t have the opportunities. “Every generation is told they are going to do worse than their parents, people pick it up and do what they do and they raise themselves. And this is what you've got to do. “It is called being a good citizen.” Goldberg, who has an estimated net worth of $60m, made the comments after a slew of studies came out this year which suggest it is harder for millennials to own homes than previous generations. Government data analysed by property listing company Apartment List found that by age 30, just 42 per cent of millennials owned homes, compared to 48 per cent of gen Xers and 51 per cent of baby boomers. The gap persists into their early 40s, with the oldest millennials still having a lower rate of ownership than previous generations when they were that age. Speaking on a talk show on 8 November, Goldberg was responding to comments from co-host Alyssa Farah, who suggested the 2008 financial crisis and other economic disruptions in the 15 years since had made things more difficult for millennials. While it is unlikely to be the only factor, many young people in the US came out of college with poor earning prospects in the wake of the financial crash. That, in turn, widened income inequality and caused house prices to rise faster than wages in the decade following. People on social media were quick to criticise her comments. One person said: “Sometimes Whoopi totally gets it wrong. This would be an instance.” “Whoopi don’t do this… Homes are unaffordable, and people are priced out of their area,” another wrote. “Whoopi’s tone is a prime example of why things are so tough for younger generations,” a third person added. Tory MPs have been roasted with savage Barbie bus stop and tube posters
Tory MPs have been roasted with savage Barbie bus stop and tube posters
Barbiemania is unstoppable. Merch is flying, people won't stop playing the soundtrack, and the Greta Gerwig film has been a huge box office hit. But now it has gone one step further and transcended pop culture to worm its way into the political realm - having influenced anti-Tory protesters, who have cast MPs as characters in the hit film and put posters of them around London bus stops and tubes. The posters show big name ministers and MPs Suella Braverman, Rishi Sunak, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Robert Jenrick, Lee Anderson and Priti Patel, Kemi Badenoch, Liz Truss, Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and Dominic Raab and doesn't cast them in a favourable light. Instead, they show quotes from the politicians or short bios about their failures accompanied with the hashtag "#ThisBarbieIsAC*nt". Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Liz Truss's poster, for instance, claims she is "as useful as a condom". It adds: "Liz Truss holds the record for the shortest time served as PM. She crashed the economy trying to make her pals richer. While we're struggling to buy food and pay our bills, she's making tens and thousands as a public speaker. "#thelettucewoulddoabetterjob". Another poster calls another former PM, Johnson a "f**king eejit". Pictures of the bus posters were uploaded to Twitter by the campaign group Lesbians and Gays Support the Migrants. The group, who posted the images on Twitter on the same day that Barbie was released in cinemas, wrote: “This week not only marks the cinematic event of the summer, but the Illegal Immigration Bill also passed a few days ago and it looks as though someone has been doing some alternative promo.” They added: “This government’s treatment of migrants and asylum seekers is an outrage that violates human rights and fails to protect those fleeing from persecution and conflict. It will make life even more dangerous for people on the move.” As for the tube posters, they wrote: "We may not all be barbie girls, but we do live in this Tory world. The UK government targets and scapegoats asylum seekers, migrants and trans people, and fabricates fear to distract us all from their farcical failure to serve the people." They referenced Sunak's commitment to expand North Sea drilling today, which is controversial because of climate change, adding: "While Shell announces annual profits almost 10X their last, around one in five (20 percent) of our population live in poverty. Now just this morning the Tories have issued 100 new oil and gas licences. Make it make sense. "We’re being rinsed, financially and politically, now and for generations to come. No mojo dojo case house vibes please, we’ve had Kenough". But it looks like the poster campaign might be short-lived. When the bus stop posters appeared, Transport for London (TfL) spokeswoman told the Evening Standard: “These offensive adverts are not authorised by TfL or our advertising partner JCDecaux. “We have instructed our contractors to remove any of these posters found on our network immediately.” Have your say in our news democracy.
