Emily Maitlis responds to casting of her in Prince Andrew drama: 'Blimey'
Emily Maitlis has reacted to the casting choice of the BBC and Amazon drama 'A Very Royal Scandal' based on her infamous 2019 interview with Prince Andrew. Michael Sheen is set to play the controversial royal and Ruth Wilson is taking on the role of the former Newsnight presenter, with production already underway, Variety reported. The three-part drama, aptly titled “A Very Royal Scandal will follow “Emily Maitlis’s professional and personal journey as a Newsnight journalist, leading up to her acclaimed interview with Prince Andrew.” Back in 2019, the 58-minute programme saw Prince Andrew being put in the hot seat over his relationship with the American convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Following the interview, Prince Andrew stepped back from royal duties and in 2022 he paid a financial settlement to his alleged victim and accuser, Virginia Giuffre. When news of the casting broke, Maitlis herself took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the casting choice which she appears to be impressed with. "Blimey. First time I’ve seen this in print. What an exceptional cast," she wrote. "A Very Royal Scandal" comes after the success of previous dramas “A Very English Scandal” starring Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw and “A Very British Scandal” starring Claire Foy and Paul Bettany. Meanwhile, this isn't the only adaptation of the notable interview set to hit our screens in the future. It was announced last year that a film will be made called "Scoop" starring Rufus Sewell and Gillian Anderson, and written by Peter Moffat which is set to be released on Netflix. Sophie Turner gains over 150,000 Instagram followers after divorce from Joe Jonas
Sophie Turner has been inundated with Instagram followers following the announcement of her divorce from Joe Jonas after four years of marriage. Earlier this month, news broke that Jonas filed for divorce in Florida's Miami-Dad County Court citing their marriage being "irretrievably broken," according to papers obtained by the Associated Press. Now, research from Amazon Slots has revealed that the Game of Thrones star has gained a staggering 156,266 followers since 3rd September. Meanwhile, Jonas experienced significantly less with 54,243 new Instagram followers, with the couple later posting a joint statement on their mutual decision. "After four years of wonderful marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage," the pair wrote. "There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children." Fans have since rushed to support Turner after some claims online suggest there's a "smear campaign" against the actress by framing her as a bad, inattentive mother and wife. One fan wrote, "I love Joe Jonas as much as the next girlie [...] this is just a bad attempt at framing Sophie to be some careless mother and that's not it for me!!" Speaking about the social media findings, a spokesperson for Amazon Slots said: "News of celebrity divorces is always disheartening, and the separation of Jonas and Turner, two beloved pop culture fixtures, is no less so. "In such situations, the public often tends to take sides, but it is fascinating to note that public opinion remains relatively split between these two adored stars, as evident from the fluctuations in their followers." Gary Neville makes surprise move to BBC show
Gary Neville is joining Dragons' Den. The former footballer and businessman is right back in the limelight after signing up to the programme as a guest dragon for the upcoming series. It’s a surprise, but then again should it be? He’s been speaking an awful lot of business mumbo jumbo recently, talking like someone addicted to the ‘grindset’ and describing his “mini-retirements” that the rest of us would call holidays. Neville has entered into a number of different ventures since returning from football in 2011. He co-owns Salford City football club, as well as a hotel and a hospitality company. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Fashion designer and entrepreneur Emma Grede will also join the series as a guest dragon, alongside regulars Steven Bartlett, Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, Touker Suleyman and Sara Davies. Speaking about joining the programme, Neville said: “I am excited to join the Dragons, and to meet the entrepreneurs brave enough to face us in the Den. "I hope my personal journey shows that you can take the experiences you’ve had in one part of your career and use them to do something entirely different and make it a success." "Business is all about managing people and managing yourself and I’m looking forward to sharing my experience to help the entrepreneurs we’ll meet in the Den reach their potential,” the 48-year-old went on to say. Look out for Neville on the programme next year. It comes after Neville claimed weird things have been happening to him since he started criticising the Conservatives a couple of years ago, then led by Boris Johnson. The football pundit told The Guardian about all the things that happened to him during this period and even revealed that he had freedom of information requests put in against him. “While he was prime minister, I felt we were in real danger. All my life, I’ve been in teams where you look after one another. This lot don’t think that way. They’re in it for themselves and on the take,” he said. "It’s damaging our country, our integrity, our international standing. We’re a laughing stock. Johnson has got to be expelled from British politics for good. So do all his cronies who enabled him.
