Head to the Google homepage today and you’ll see a flame-haired woman gazing into the distance. The Doodle was created in honour of German actress Renate Krößner, who would have turned 78 today. Krößner was propelled to international stardom after playing the titular role in Solo Sunny – a 1980 East German film about a rebellious singer, which struck a chord with audiences around the world. Her performance was met with universal critical acclaim, earning her the Best Actress Silver Bear award at the Berlin International Film Festival — the first for an East German production. Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter For the uninitiated, Germany was split into East and West from 1945-1990: the western bloc was led by the US and the eastern bloc by the USSR, and life on the two sides couldn’t have been more different. The West was a liberal democracy, while the East was essentially a communist state. Permission had to be granted to anyone who wished to leave the socialist territory, which Krößner obtained in 1985. After moving to West Berlin, Krößner became a mainstay on hit West German TV shows and continued to wow film critics, racking up a number of prestigious accolades including an RTL Golden Lion. In 1991, Krößner was a jury member at the 41st Berlin International Film Festivaland she continued acting into the 2000s. She died following a short illness on 25 May, 2020 at the age of 75. As the biggest YouTuber out there, MrBeast is known for his eye-catching thumbnails. However, he recently noted one change that is causing even more people to view his videos. The 25-year-old - whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson - has over 181m subscribers and so knows what causes viewers to click on his latest piece of elaborate content. Often, MrBeast - like many other YouTubers - can be seen pulling a shocked face to attract and intrigue viewers to watch in his thumbnail images. But after testing out different versions for his videos, he shared how the classic pose isn't as effective as he thought, explaining that thumbnails with his mouth shut do better. “I closed my mouth on all my thumbnails and the watch time went up on every video lol,” MrBeast said on Twitter/X. “My mouth is now closed in all my thumbnails but the war has just begun. We must not rest until mouths are closed in everyone’s thumbnails." In the tweet, he shared a screenshot of the different combinations where YouTube declared the thumbnails of him flashing a smile were a "winner," compared to the traditional shocked face. "Now all YouTubers will shut their mouths," one user jokingly tweeted, to which the MrBeast replied: "Thank god." When someone asked the YouTuber if the shocked face thumbnail era was over, he answered: "Seems like it, here’s more results. Now that I can actually A/B test thumbnails I don’t have to guess and I just test and see what people want." The YouTuber admitted: "My mouth would have closed years ago if I had this tool." Musk and Zuckerberg, the owners of Twitter and Facebook respectively, have 'agreed' to have a cage fight against each other after the challenge was laid down by the Telsa and SpaceX CEO. Zuckerberg, who is trained in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, appeared to respond to the South African billionaire, writing 'send me location' in an Instagram post. It's unknown if this fight will actually take place but if it does they could settle their differences in the six-sided ring of AAA, which was originally known as Asistencia, Asesoría y Administración de Espectáculos. Although this would be great to see we can't imagine that Musk or Zuckerberg would be keen to go through with this but the option does appear to be there for a Triplemania XXXI match on July 15th should they want to. Meanwhile, Musk has been offered the assistance of controversial influencer and former kickboxer Andrew Tate, who has offered to train the former richest man in the world for the upcoming Zuckerberg fight.
