Arnold Schwarzenegger believes he had a part in the rise of AI
Arnold Schwarzenegger has said that he believes The Terminator had a role in AI development. Speaking in Los Angeles at ‘An Evening with Arnold Schwarzenegger’, the 75-year-old discussed the state of AI in 2023. Schwarzenegger said “today, everyone is frightened of it, of where this is gonna go.” He then goes on to say, “and in this movie, in ‘Terminator,’ we talk about the machines becoming self-aware and they take over.” Because of this he took a moment to commend the “brilliance” of James Cameron, the writer and director of the 1984 movie, because at that time they had only “scratched the surface of AI.” And it seems that the former governor of California attributes this development to The Terminator and James Cameron saying: “Now over the course of decades, it has become a reality. So it’s not any more fantasy or kind of futuristic. It is here today. And so this is the extraordinary writing of James Cameron.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter “I wish I could take credit for this movie,” Schwarzenegger added, continuing to praise Cameron, “he’s just such an extraordinary writer and he’s such an unbelievable director.” “I can only take credit of the character that i played and the way I played it,” he added. “But I mean, he has created this character.” Back in May a Twitter user at the Dell Tech World conference shared that Cameron had begun writing a new Terminator movie but “wants to see how #AI shakes out before he goes any further.” At the Los Angeles event, Schwarzenegger said that whilst The Terminator franchise will continue, it will do so without him. “The franchise is not done. I’m done. I got the message loud and clear that the world wants to move on with a different theme when it comes to The Terminator.” He added that he looks at the franchise “very fondly,” attributing it to much of his success. ExorSwift: Taylor Swift fans denied Exorcist double bill following changes
ExorSwift: Taylor Swift fans denied Exorcist double bill following changes
The Exorcist: Believer was originally meant to be released in cinemas on October 13, but this has since been changed after Taylor Swift announced her Eras Tour concert film will also be on the same Friday. We almost had Exorswift - an autumn sequel to our Barbenheimer summer but alas, the horror movie that is a highly anticipated direct sequel to the 1973 original classic by William Friedkin will now be out in cinemas a week earlier on October 6. This change comes in order to avoid having the same release as Swift's film which she recently announced on Instagram. "The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far," the singer wrote on social media and also added that "Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing [are] encouraged." In response, The Exorcist: Believer producer Jason Blum shared news of the release date change, with a nod to Swift's song 'Look What You Made Me Do," from the 2017 album reputation. "Look what you made me do. The Exorcist: Believer moves to 10/6/23. #TaylorWins," he tweeted. It appears that The Exorcist: Believer release date change will happen in North America, not in the UK as only the North American release date has been confirmed for Swift's concert film. The Exorcist: Believer stars Leslie Odom Jr, Ann Dowd, Jennifer Nettles, Lidya Jewett, Olivia Marcum, Okwui Okpokwasili and Raphael Sbarge. Fans of the original film will also be excited to learn that Ellen Burstyn reprises her role as Chris MacNeil from the original film. The Exorcist: Believer is out in cinemas on October 6 in North America, and October 13 in the UK, while Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film is out on October 13 in North America, dates for other countries have not yet been announced. Elsewhere, Taylor Swift referenced a popular fan phrase to promote new movie. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Ryan Reynolds pays heartfelt tribute to Ben Foster:
Ryan Reynolds pays heartfelt tribute to Ben Foster: "I love this guy"
Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds has paid a touching tribute to the club's goalkeeper Ben Foster who has announced his immediate retirement following a difficult start to the season. The 40-year-old shot-stopper came out of retirement for the Welsh side last season to help them earn promotion back to the football league and made some crucial saves in team's National League winning campaign. However, life in League Two has not been easy for Wrexham or Foster as the team has won just once and already conceded 13 goals. A tipping point proved to be on Saturday when Wrexham were down 4-1 at half-time to visiting Swindon Town, eventually drawing the game 5-5. After speaking with manager Phil Parkinson, Foster agreed that it was time to hang his boots up for a second time. In a statement released on the club's website Foster said: "The honest truth is that my performances this season haven’t reached the level I demand of myself and I feel that now is the right time to retire. “At the forefront of my mind when making this decision, was not only what was best for me but also the Club, and making the decision now gives the Club every opportunity to assess their options before the window closes. “Wrexham will always have a special place in my heart.” Reynolds, who appeared to have a blossoming friendship with Foster, said on X/Twitter: He built memories I’ll never let go of for as long as I live. I love this guy. Thank you for everything, Ben." Parkinson also added to the tributes: "Ben has been the model professional while at Wrexham and has done everything we have asked of him. “It takes a big person to make the decision he has and one who really understands this Football Club, with the timing of his decision. “I am sure I speak for everyone, when thanking him for his contribution that went far beyond that one magnificent penalty save against Notts County to help us gain promotion last season. “Wrexham AFC was a better place for having Ben Foster around the Club.” This was Foster's second spell at Wrexham having spent time on loan there from Stoke City in 2005. Foster played more than 500 games in his career at clubs like Manchester United, Watford, Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion. Wrexham's next game sees them face Barrow in the hope that they can start to climb the League Two ladder where they currently sit in 15th position.
