LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Elon Musk believes his transgender daughter, Vivian, 19, whom he had with his ex-wife Justine Wilson, was brainwashed into severing ties with him.
Canadian writer Justine Wilson and Musk were married from 2002 to 2008.
Musk and Wilson met while they were both students at Queen's University in Ontario, Canada, in the '90s. They got married in January 2000 and had six children.
Their first son, Nevada Alexander, died in 2002 due to sudden infant death syndrome.
Wilson published her first fantasy novel, 'BloodAngel', through Penguin Books in 2005. For the unversed, Wilson received $20M in her divorce settlement from Musk, as per The List.
Wilson's Twitter bio reads, "Wrote dark fantasy novel BLOODANGEL + other stuff. Published by Penguin, Simon+ Schuster, Marie Claire, others. 3x TEDx speaker on creativity."
Why did Vivian Musk cut ties with Elon Musk?
In his upcoming biography, Musk called his daughter a "communist" and accused her of cutting ties with him because her $50,000-per-year California school brainwashed her into "thinking that anyone rich is evil."
In 2022, Musk's now-19-year-old daughter formally changed her name to Vivian Jenna Wilson and gender to female, declaring in court documents that she "no longer wishes to be related" to the wealthy Tesla CEO "in any way."
Walter Isaacson, who is writing Musk's biography, stated that the split with Vivian "pained him more than anything in his life since the infant death of his firstborn child Nevada."
Nevada died when he was just 10 weeks old.
According to Isaacson, the successful businessman was first "generally sanguine" about his child's transition.
However, things changed when Vivian, who also goes by Jenna, started expressing radical Marxist beliefs and made it clear she wanted to cut off all links, per the Daily Mail.
Why did Elon Musk blame Crossroads School?
Musk, who is currently the richest man in the world with a net worth of $258B, according to Forbes, blamed Crossroads, a private K–12 school in Santa Monica.
Musk previously cited "woke" schools as the cause of his conflict with Vivian, but this was the first time he has specifically mentioned Crossroads.
Crossroads boasts an impressive alumni list including Zooey Deschanel, Jonah Hill, Jack Black, Kate Hudson and Gwyneth Paltrow.
He said, "She went beyond socialism to being a full communist and thinking that anyone rich is evil."
According to Isaacson, Vivian came out to the wife of Musk's brother when she was 16, which would have been in 2020 or 2021, by texting, "Hey, I'm transgender, and my name is now Jenna... Don't tell my dad."
The biographer explained that Musk's terrible relationship with Vivian was partially to blame for the billionaire's continuous preoccupation with "woke" ideology.
He preceived the ideology as a danger to human civilization and said that it served as the impetus for his $42B takeover of Twitter in 2022.
"Unless the woke mind virus, which is fundamentally anti-science, anti-merit, and anti-human in general, is stopped, civilization will never become multiplanetary," Musk reportedly told the author.
When did Vivian Musk first legally change her name?
In April 2022, Vivian first filed a formal petition to have her name and gender changed.
Vivian said in court testimony in California that she wanted to go by the name Vivian Jenna Wilson in part to distinguish herself from her father. That request was approved in June 2022.
