NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Christie Brinkley definitely knows how to not let online trolls get the best of her. In a recent Instagram post on June 28, she shared a selfie showcasing her glamorous makeup and vibrant blue outfit. However, some individuals decided to leave negative comments, prompting Brinkley to update her original caption and address the trolls directly.
Brinkley wrote, "Whoa Nelly! The Wrinkle Brigade is out in full force in the comment thread! They are the people that scan celebrities' pages, hoping to find some cellulite, wrinkles, or anything that they can point to critique." She acknowledged that these individuals may be projecting their insecurities onto her, stating, "It must be some form of compensation for something they are lacking." Before she updated the caption, it just read, "Downtown Girl."
Shrugging off the haters
After Brinkley posted the selfie, rude comments were soon to follow. One Instagram user wrote, "Oops Christi, too much filler and Botox," while another wrote, "There comes a point where you just have to accept the aging process." "Did u use your magic wand today? I think maybe not," commented a user pointing to how Brinkley looked different. Having said that, others came in her support, with a fan stating, "One of our planet's most beautiful souls," and another expressing, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all and don't follow her if you're only going to mock her."
Shrugging off the mean comments, Brinkley made it clear that they did not outweigh the positive feedback she received. She expressed gratitude for the kind and valuable messages from those who chose to stand against the negativity, which she described as restoring her faith and making her heart sing. The 'Timeless Beauty' author wrote, "But when those people appear, there are others who pop up with messages so kind and valuable. Those are the comments that restore my faith and make my heart sing! Thank you sweet souls."
'It's really about gratitude'
Earlier this year, Brinkley shared her perspective with PEOPLE about loving oneself and embracing one's natural beauty. She emphasized that true beauty comes from within and is connected to the energy and spirit one brings into a room. The star encouraged gratitude as a powerful mindset and the key to happiness, highlighting the importance of sharing good energy with others, saying, "It all has to do with your spirit and the energy that you deliver and bring into the room with you. That's what is going to define you. Forget anti-aging this and all of that. It's really about gratitude."
Brinkley's response to online negativity serves as a reminder to focus on positivity and appreciation rather than allowing criticism to overshadow self-confidence and joy. She continued in the interview, "And when you find something to be grateful about in whatever situation you're in, and wherever you may find yourself, that translates to happiness, and happiness and good energy that you can share with other people."
