LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson aka the new Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, revealed that he was so scared to act with Harrison Ford on their first day of filming 'Captain America: Brave New World' that he blanked out on his script.
The upcoming fourth 'Captain America' film marks the first time Mackie leads a Marvel movie as the star-spangled hero. Ford joins the MCU as Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross. “I was terrified the first day,” Mackie told Inverse.
'I couldn’t get my lines right. He’s Harrison f****g Ford'
“I couldn’t get my lines right. He’s Harrison f*****g Ford. He has this presence about him. But he breaks that down really fast because he’s such a chill guy. He’s the epitome of a movie star. He would say, ‘Let’s shoot this piece of sh**.’ And everyone was like, ‘Yeah, let’s shoot this shit.’” The plot of 'Captain America: Brave New World' is still a mystery, but Marvel has confirmed that Ford’s Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross is the POTUS.
“We got to hang out a lot,” Mackie said. “Ross and Cap have always had this dynamic, where they were buddies and they respected each other, but they always clashed. That’s their relationship in the story.” 'Captain America: Brave New World' finished shooting in Atlanta recently. The film is directed by Julius Onah ('The Cloverfield Paradox,' 'Luce').
Malcolm Spellman is one of the writers of the film
Malcolm Spellman, who collaborated with Mackie as the creator of the Disney+ show 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,' is one of the writers of the film. Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson are returning to their Marvel roles of Betty Ross and Samuel Sterns from 'The Incredible Hulk' while new additions to the MCU include Shira Haas and 'Top Gun: Maverick' actor Danny Ramirez.
In an interview with Esquire magazine last month, Ford said he enjoyed filming 'Brave New World' on the film’s Atlanta set. “Uh, yeah,” Ford said when asked if he was having fun. “I mean, there are hard days and easy days and fun days and all sorts of days. It’s a grueling schedule and, yeah, it’s fun. But it’s not a breeze. It’s not fun. It’s work.” 'Captain America: Brave New World' will hit theaters on May 3, 2024.
