LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A recent ‘Hot Topics’ segment on ‘The View’ has confirmed that Whoopi Goldberg is a die-hard Barbie fan. As the much-anticipated release of Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ and Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ lands on the big screen, some controversies have presented themselves in the media, and ‘The View’ has addressed them.
There has been a conservative outrage over the ‘Barbie’ movie, and Goldberg doesn’t seem pleased by it in the slightest. Goldberg showcased her disdain over the issue, and along with that, also showed off her Barbie footwear in the most unique way possible.
‘It’s a movie about a doll'
On Tuesday, July 25, Goldberg read out the hot topic to her co-hosts, “Even before it did big business at the box office this weekend, a wave of conservatives were bashing Barbie. Here are some of their complaints. Clip please.” ‘The View’ then played a clip of a series of different sources bashing ‘Barbie’ which claimed, “This isn’t a kids' movie after all.” After the different clips are played, Goldberg had a deadpan expression on her face before she finally spoke up, “It’s a movie. It’s a movie about a doll.” There was a round of applause from the audience before Goldberg continued, “I thought ya’ll would be happy, she has no genitalia, so there’s no sex involved. Ken has no genitalia, so he can’t be…it’s a doll movie.”
Goldberg shows off her unique footwear
Goldberg then explained how children perceive ‘Barbie’ versus the adults, “The kids know it's colorful and it's Barbie, they haven’t lived through what the adults have lived through. So when they’re seeing this movie, that’s not how they’re looking at it. The kids are looking at it as a Barbie movie. You guys…I want you all to tell your daughters why you’re not taking them to see the movie. I want you to explain to them what’s wrong with Barbie.”
After this, Goldberg put her feet up on the table, and ‘The View’ zoomed in on her footwear as Goldberg said, “Now look, I love my Barbie.” Goldberg wore short white boots with a string of Barbie faces on the heel, and she wore them proudly. Goldberg could potentially start a trend with this footwear!
