BUDAPEST, HUNGARY: Amidst the excitement of the highly anticipated 2023 World Athletics Championships, kicking off in Budapest on August 19, all eyes are on Sandi Morris as she mesmerizes the world with her extraordinary pole vaulting abilities. Proudly representing the United States, Sandi has solidified her position as a standout athlete in her discipline, captivating sports enthusiasts across the globe.
As a Rio Olympics silver medalist and a two-time Indoor World Champion, she has garnered numerous accolades throughout her career. With an outdoor personal best of 5m (16ft 5in) and an indoor personal best of 4.95m, which also happens to be the championship record at the World Championships Indoor in Birmingham, Sandi has proven her extraordinary talent in the sport.
Currently, under the guidance of her coach Brad Walker, a former pole vaulter from the US, Sandi turned professional in 2015 when she joined forces with Nike. Besides her sporting achievements, there's another aspect of Sandi's life that has caught the attention of many; her marriage to Tyrone Smith, who is also a track and field athlete.
Who is Sandi Morris' husband?
Tyrone, Sandi's husband, is a track and field athlete hailing from Bermuda. Born on August 7, 1984, in Paget Parish, Tyrone grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. He excelled in both football and track and field at NCCHS, and after his freshman year at the University of Missouri-Rolla, he decided to focus solely on track and field. Tyrone boasts three NCAA Division II All-American honors in the long jump and holds the school record in both indoor and outdoor long jump events.
Having represented Bermuda at various international competitions, including the Olympic Games, Tyrone has displayed his skill and dedication on the field. His personal best leap of 8.34 meters, achieved in Houston, Texas, is a Bermudian national record. Further, Sandi and Tyrone's relationship blossomed in 2016, and it became even more special when they attended the 2016 Olympics together.
Tyrone, a three-time Olympic long jumper, made headlines during the 2018 diamond league final in Zurich when he flew from the USA to surprise her with a ring. Although Sandi didn't win the games, the natural diamond he gifted her holds a cherished place in her heart. Later, the two tied the knot in an intimate beach wedding ceremony in Key Largo, Florida. They both have a love for sports and the outdoors, and they continue to inspire each other in their respective athletic pursuits.
Even though Sandi and Tyrone do not have children, Sandi has a deep affection for animals, especially reptiles. At one point, she had around 28 snakes, but her busy life as a full-time athlete with frequent travel left little time for so many pets. Eventually, she downsized her collection to three snakes, two red tail boas and a ball python. Additionally, Sandi has two Italian greyhounds named Rango and Nim, and she also cares for two birds, Indi and Juniper.
