LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Rachel Zegler's life took a dramatic turn when she landed the lead role in the 2021 remake of 'West Side Story' by Steven Spielberg. The 22-year-old actress not only formed lasting friendships but also unexpectedly found love during the filming of the project.
Zegler's career continues to soar as she has been cast in the live-action remake of 'Snow White,' alongside Gal Gadot, who will play the evil queen. However, the upcoming reboot is not shying away from making some changes to the original script, to reflect a more woke perspective. In the upcoming live-action reboot, the classic line, "Magic mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?" will undergo a significant change, according to Zegler.
'She's not going to be saved by the Prince'
"The reality is that the cartoon was made 85 years ago and therefore it's extremely dated when it comes to the ideas of women being in roles of power and what a woman is fit for in the world," the actress told EW. "And so when we came to reimagining the actual role of Snow White it became about the 'fairest of them all' meaning who is the most just and who can become a fantastic leader."
"She's not going to be saved by the Prince and she's the proactive one, and she's the one who set the terms, is what makes it so relevant to where we are today," she said. Gadot added, "She's not going to be dreaming about true love." Instead, the new 'Snow White' will focus on her aspirations of becoming the best leader she can be. "The leader that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave, and true," Zegler shared.
Who is Rachel Zegler dating?
While Snow White may not be seeking true love, Zegler has definitely found happiness and love in her real-life relationship with Josh Andres Rivera. Zegler and Rivera made their relationship public in February 2022. Two months before making their relationship public, Zegler and Rivera hinted at their romance on social media, sharing posts that indicated they spent Christmas together. "Spending christmas eve with a man i have never met before," Zegler joked alongside a series of Instagram pics featuring Rivera. "Maybe you know him, he seems pretty cool— like he could be the love child of iron man and john wick, idk though."
A month after Zegler's 'Best Actress' win at the National Board of Review gala, Zegler expressed her gratitude to Rivera in a heartwarming Twitter post, further confirming their romance. "I wish to extend my thanks to the love of my life, who I was blessed enough to meet on the set of this film many moons ago," she wrote. "Thank you for holding my hand in my dreams and in my reality. I love doing life with you. Thanks for making me laugh."
In an earlier interview with Elle, Zegler opened up about how Rivera has a positive impact on her life. "There's always this deep understanding of what I go through. Since [his experience was] on a different scale, he's able to bring me back to earth and tell me when it really doesn't matter," she said. "Because he's removed from it to a certain degree, he's able to just snap me out of it, and tell me to stop checking my phone, or remind me of what actually matters, and remind me to be present, and to not focus on the opinions of 3,000 faceless strangers on the Internet."
