Collin is one of the sextuplets born to Kate and Jon Gosselin. His other siblings are Hannah, Alexis, Aaden, Leah, and Joel. The childhood of the sextuplets was captured on the TLC reality series 'Jon & Kate Plus 8', which documented the challenges and experiences of raising a large family. Collin's older twin sisters, Cara and Mady, also featured prominently on the show. Due to the nature of most TLC shows, the Gosselin family's journey garnered significant attention and interest from viewers, making it a significant reality series for the channel.
'Jon & Kate Plus 8' originally aired between 2007 and 2010, and after the parents' divorce in 2009, the show was rebranded as 'Kate Plus 8.' The rebranded version continued for six more seasons until its conclusion in July 2017. During an interview with Vice TV, Collin criticized his mother for directing some of the emotional pain she experienced during her divorce from Jon toward him, expressing his feelings of being a target of his mother's frustrations, which left a lasting impact on him.
'She needed someone to take out her anger and frustration on'
"I know my mother was going through a lot of things, I mean, a divorce and plenty of different things that can't be easy to go through," Collin said, continuing, "I want to think that she needed someone to take out her anger and frustration on. It was just kind of me, you know? I was in the way, and I was there, so she chose me." His sister Hannah recollected that Collin was often prohibited from playing outside with his siblings and was frequently excluded from joining them for meals. "He would be separated from us, like, he would not get to come and play outside with us. He would eat dinner at different times than us," she claimed. Furthermore, Collin acknowledged that he was not a "perfect child" but maintained that his misbehavior was no different from that of his siblings. "I don't think the effort was made in the home to help him learn what behavior is acceptable and not acceptable," Hannah expressed about their situation at home.
Currently, Jon has full custody of Collin and Hannah, while their siblings Aaden, Alexis, Joel, and Leah live with Kate. On the other hand, Mady and Cara, the older twins, are presently attending college in New York. Collin has openly discussed his strained relationship with his mother, citing the TV show as the initial cause of the fracture. However, their bond further deteriorated after Kate sent him to a boarding educational facility in 2016.
