BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA: The sister of Sharon Tate is reportedly furious about the auction of the front door of the late actress’ house where she was killed alongside her friends. The wife of Roman Polanski was pregnant in August 1969 when her life was cut short by Charles Manson's cult followers. Others who lost their lives were celebrity hairstylist Jay Sebring, coffee heiress Abigail Folger, Wojciech Frykowski, and teenager Steven Parent.
At the time of the murders, Tate and other victims were inside her 1942 house at 10050 Cielo Drive in Beverley Hills, California. But after the tragedy, it was sold to producer Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. In 1993, Reznor left the residence after speaking with Tate’s sister Debra.
‘I went home and cried that night’
He reportedly said at the time, “She [Debra Tate] lost her sister from a senseless, ignorant situation that I don't want to support. When she was talking to me, I realized for the first time, 'What if it was my sister?' I thought, 'Fuck Charlie Manson. I don't want to be looked at as a guy who supports serial-killer bullshit.' I went home and cried that night.”
Reznor, however, did uninstall the front door to take with him. But eventually, this door ended up with Christopher Moore, TMZ reported.
Who is Christopher Moore?
Moore is reportedly the current owner of the door. He revealed to TMZ that he purchased it in 2017 from a doctor. The man shared that his initial plan was to put the door to an old church he owned but did not get the approval. Then he thought of auctioning it off.
The tabloid reported that the door “was expected to fetch anywhere from $2,000 to $4,000, but it's skyrocketed past $22k with just 7 bids!” Also, as per Julien’s Auction that is helping Moore, the present bid is $30,000. It describes the door as “a white, cottage-style front,” which was “previously attached to the infamous residence at 10050 Cielo Drive, formerly rented by Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski.” The auction's note further states, “The door features nine glass window panels on the top, a center ledge, a brass knob, and a gold-tone lock. Please note: the front of the door appears to have been repainted."
What did Debra Tate say about the door’s auction?
Debra is not happy with the recent development. TMZ reported that she’s “disgusted a guy is trying to make a buck off the door to the home where her sibling was butchered.” She also stated that Moore and Julien’s Auction “oughta be ashamed of themselves for trying to profit off the murder of the late actress, who was 8 months pregnant at the time.” The woman has also reportedly expressed her doubt over the door’s authenticity. She has claimed that the design of the door, which is put up for auction, does not match her sister’s house door.
