LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The range of guests on ‘GMA3’, the spinoff of the morning show, never seems to disappoint. From actors and artists to famous sportspersons, the show has hosted some of the most interesting profiles of established as well as new generation and upcoming stars in their respective fields. One such child prodigy, who has taken the chess world by storm, recently appeared on the show and surprised host DeMarco Morgan with her inspiring story.
Morgan and Eva Pilgrim welcomed Alice Lee, a rising star in the world of chess who made history as the youngest American female to achieve the International Chess Master title at the mere age of 13. Lee’s stupendous and unreal accomplishment shook Morgan, who was in complete awe of Lee’s simplicity and genius on the chess board.
Who is Alice Lee?
Alice Lee is a 13-year-old chess prodigy from Minneapolis who turned heads after achieving the International Chess Master title and winning the 2023 US Girls’ Junior Championship. Lee looks up to chess icon Judit Polgar as her true inspiration and states that it was her brother who introduced her to the world of chess at the young age of six. In an interview with Chessbase.com, Lee further revealed that her most memorable tournament was The American Cup 2022 when she was paired against her idols.
Lee states that she wishes to become a Grand Master someday and is a recipient of the Frank P Samford, Jr Chess Fellowship which is believed to be one of the most important chess fellowships in the United States. From the innumerable accolades that are already attached to her name, the one that stands out is that of her being the youngest American female player to achieve the International Masters title and the third youngest internationally. While appearing on ‘GMA3’, Lee mentioned that “enjoying the game will take you far” to anyone who is planning to start.
DeMarco Morgan bowled over by Lee’s natural skills
'GMA3’ host DeMarco Morgan was in complete awe of Lee’s skills as a chess player. The host's first question to Lee was, “How does it come so naturally to you?” Lee smiled and answered that it was almost seven years ago that she started playing the game. She believed that starting at a such young age helped her to hone her skills and turn into a valuable player. Morgan listened intently and praised Lee but was further interested in her gameplay as he inquired about her plans in the realm of chess. After listening to Lee talk, Morgan could only quip, “You are incredible,” as Eva followed with, “My mind is blown.”
