BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA: Mellissa, from Normal in Illinois, came to 'Botched' doctors with an upturned nose that made her the target of bullies. In the season eight premiere, Mellisa opened up about being tormented because of her upturned nose, dubbed a "pig nose" by her tormentors.
Dr Paul Nassif and Dr Terry Dubrow are polishing up their respective scalpels for season 8 of 'Botched'. And the E! surgical dream team will be the first to inform you that it's packed with their most difficult and intricate cases to date. Patients have entrusted the two to help heal previous trauma and terrible plastic surgery to alter their lives, from a botched tummy tuck to a dog bite sufferer who lost the entire tip of their nose. On the August 3 episode, a 'Botched' patient born with a "pig nose" revealed her story of how she has faced terrible and lifelong bullying because of her nose — the real-life version of the film 'Penelope'.
Who is Mellissa on 'Botched'?
"My childhood was rough," Mellissa admits in a confessional. "As far back as I can remember, I have been made fun of because of my nose. And there came a point—I think I was seven years old—and I even asked my dad if I was meant to be a pig in life because it was just so put in my head that I had a pig nose and that's what I was supposed to be."
Her facial disfigurement had an influence on every part of her life, including her dating life. "So, here I am, 38, and only one boyfriend in my entire life," Mellissa says. "And that did not even last that long. I'm so self-conscious about it."
Even more distressing, her nose prevented her from ever wanting to have her own children. "I didn't want to pass on this nose to them, because I didn't want them to look like that," Mellissa reveals. "I don't want them to be bullied the way I was." At the end of the day, she just wants "to look in the mirror and not focus in on my nose."
What happened to Mellissa on 'Botched'?
During her interview with doctors Dr Nassif and Dr Dubrow, Mellissa said that she was constantly dubbed "pig nose" as a child, causing Dr Nassif to sympathize, "Can you imagine being traumatized that early?" She sought treatment at the age of 14, but the condition only worsened after her first doctor implanted a device. "If anything, it just made it more broad and more protruded," Mellissa observed. "It pushed out. And then, as the months went on, you could start to see the implant." Mellissa had two surgeries done before going to the 'Botched' doctors. "I would love for my nose to be longer," she said, thinking she didn't have much of a "tip" at all. Dr Nassif confirmed she just wanted a "normal nose" for a girl from Normal, Illinois.
Where is Mellissa from 'Botched' now?
Dr Nassif performed an excellent job with Mellissa's surgery! Mellissa's Raynaud's phenomenon makes her operation much more risky, since her blood vessels might constrict when she is cold or anxious. So, when Dr. Nassif stretches the skin of her nose, he risks cutting off blood flow to the nasal tip! But, in the end, the 'Botched' doctor couldn't be happier with how Mellissa's operation went, and she can now be a normal-nosed girl from Normal, Illinois! Dr Nasiff gave Melissa her dream "tip" that she had always wanted.
E!'s 'Botched' airs every Thursday at 10 pm ET/PT.
