June also has an older sister Joanne, better known as Doe Doe, who occasionally makes television appearances alongside her. She suffered from cataracts in her childhood and the ignorance made her legally blind.
June dropped out of high school when she was just 15 years old to give birth to her first child, Anna Cardwell. The TLC show star earned her GED, but later said teenage pregnancy was very hard and 'just too much for me.'
June has three more daughters, Jessica Shannon, Lauryn Efird, and Alana Thompson. June remained in the news for years as she was arrested in 2008 for theft and contempt of court.
Mama June hits stardom with 'Toddlers & Tiaras'
Mama June rose to stardom after she starred in the TLC series 'Toddlers and Tiaras' back in 2011. June's youngest daughter Alana 'Honey Boo Boo' Shannon occasionally competed in beauty pageants for fun, and the show followed the mother-daughter duo through various events.
Shannon's family soon became fan favourites thanks to Alana's crazy quips and her love for 'go-go juice'.
After the breakout TV series, June starred in her family's own TLC spinoff show, 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo'.
The program aired on TLC for four seasons and 26 episodes until 2014 when the show was abruptly halted in the middle of the fifth season.
The completed episodes from season 5 of the show were later aired in April 2017.
In 2017, June landed her own reality show on We TV, titled 'Mama June: From Not to Hot'. The We TV show documented June's weight loss transformation after she underwent major weight loss surgery.
