CHELSEA, NEW YORK CITY: Fashion, beauty, and New York City all go together, and one of the newest housewives is building a name for herself in all of them through public relations. Jessel Taank of 'The Real Housewives of New York City' is a working boss lady who founded and runs The Know, a boutique agency.
RHONY's newest season premieres on Sunday, July 16, and features Jessel, a new Indian housewife. For the relaunch, Jessel, along with a cast of six other housewives, captures an unvarnished look into her New York life with her husband and twin infant boys for 14 drama-filled episodes. After graduating from college, Jessel, a 40-year-old NRI with roots in London, relocated to Manhattan to seek a career in fashion. She formerly worked in public relations and is about to establish Oushq, an online store that sells ready-to-ship Indian designer apparel for the US market.
What is Jessel Taank's net worth?
In 2022, Jessel boasted a net worth of around $1 million, as per NY Banner. This fashion publicist and brand consultant began her public relations career in February 2008 at Karla Otto in New York. She left after approximately 4 years to work for Michael Kors, where she stayed for almost 2 years.
In June 2016, she was hired as Westfield's director of public relations. And three and a half years later, the star became the vice president of BWR Public Relations. But, still dissatisfied with her employment, Jessel formed The Right Now in October 2020 and The Know in July 2022.
Jessel received her bachelor's degree in communication and media from UC Santa Barbara from 2002 to 2003. While concurrently taking a bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature at King's College, London, from 2001 to 2005.
Birth of Oushq
Oushq (pronounced Ooshk) means ageless in Arabic and has been living rent-free in the halls of Jessel's thoughts for years. Jessel finds it surreal that her idea is finally becoming a reality. Oushq is a conceptual love letter to the rest of the world through Indian fashion. Oushq is a retail site that sells expertly selected ready-to-wear and accessories to the fashion-conscious, bringing the attraction of Indian fashion to a worldwide audience.
Oushq has a deeper meaning for Jessel. As a child growing up in the suburbs of London in the 1980s, being Indian was perceived as a flaw, an afterthought. They were in the minority. "I experienced my immediate family changing their names to assimilate: my mother went from Nilam to Nicky, my uncle from Manoj to Max. I remember distinctly how we struggled with identity, but also how my mother managed to blend her fashion sensibility so seamlessly between the two cultures. She taught me how to embrace Indian fashion in a way that was so unique, but also made sense in the world we lived in. I always dreamt of giving the same gift to as many people as possible. Enter Oushq," Jessel revealed in her interview with Vogue India.
Indian fashion is quickly becoming a global focus point, yet the way Indians purchase it is archaic. India is one of genuine couture's founding fathers; beauty and quality require time, but Oushq is coming to disrupt an industry like no other. It's time to begin challenging the status quo. Jessel and her team want to provide Indian designers and couturiers with a retail destination that properly honors their work. Jessel is in talks with everyone from well-known designers to up-and-coming designers in the Indian fashion sector about including them on her platform. From designer Shubhika's Papa Don't Preach to Abhishek Sharma. There is so much untapped potential, and she is beyond thrilled to set up a platform for discovery and a bridge between these designers and the rest of the world.
Jessel now sees herself running an e-commerce empire, maybe becoming a mother of three, and continuing to enjoy and share her world with people in the next five years.
Season 14 of 'The Real Housewives of New York City' starts on Bravo on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at 9 PM, and will be available on Peacock the following day.
