NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Cynthia Nixon, who unsuccessfully ran for the NY gubernatorial position, is facing a considerable financial obligation to the city of New York, with fines exceeding $2,000. Interestingly, this comes despite her substantial earnings of $1 million per episode for the 'Sex And The City' reboot.
The New York Post reported that Nixon accumulated this significant debt due to false fire alarms triggered at her newly acquired $4.4 million Kips Bay residence. Neighbors were disturbed by the blaring fire alarms in September and October 2021 when construction began at her East 32nd Street townhouse. The alarms sounded without any actual threat, resulting in the mounting fines she now owes to the city.
What were the fines levied on Nixon?
The Fire Department of New York issued a $1,000 fine to the 57-year-old Cynthia Nixon for "failure to prevent unnecessary and/or unwarranted alarm(s)" related to false fire alarms at her $4.4 million Kips Bay residence during construction. According to a representative for Nixon, the fines have been contested and paid, but no supporting evidence has been provided to substantiate the claim.
Adding to her financial burden, another alarm incident occurred in January 2022, resulting in an additional $935 fine. Despite her substantial earnings of one million dollars per episode for the SATC reboot, 'And Just Like That,' Nixon allegedly has not settled these fines. It is noteworthy that this alleged fine-dodging comes even after the actress’s net worth is a whopping $25M as per Celebrity Net Worth’s findings.
Some more fines and a failed attempt at running for Governor
In addition to the fire alarm incidents that incurred fines, Nixon's neighbors expressed their frustration with the situation, claiming that she seems to believe she is above the law. One neighbor, Paul Gray, age 60, who resides on the same block, criticized Nixon for not taking responsibility for the alarms going off and not paying the resulting fines.
Apart from the fines related to the Fire Department, Cynthia Nixon is also reported to have outstanding fines with the Sanitation Department. In June 2022, she received a $50 fine for leaving a garbage bag outside her building on a day when garbage collection was not scheduled. Additionally, in March, she was fined another $50 for failing to clean up litter within the 18-inch curb line of her property. According to the report, it has been alleged that she has not paid either of these fines.
In 2018, Cynthia Nixon entered the race to challenge Andrew Cuomo for the Governor of New York position but faced defeat in the Democratic primary. Her failed run has left some individuals, including a veteran FDNY member, feeling infuriated.
