LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Today’ meteorologist Al Roker has had yet another blunder on air as he struggled to fix his microphone when the camera pivoted to him for the weather news.
The incident transpired on the episode on Thursday, August 24, when Hoda Kotb took the broadcast towards weather coverage where Roker was standing ready to speak.
However, things didn’t go as planned. His microphone malfunctioned at that moment and when a crew member rushed to give him a handheld wireless mic, he snapped and said, “I'm good; I got a mic. I turned it on.”
‘Today’ host Al Roker’s angry tryst with crew member on-air
Roker’s co-host Kotb, pivoted the show to him after she finished interviewing pro-tennis player Caroline Wozniacki with Craig Melvin. Roker's voice initially sounded distorted, and extremely distant.
However, Kotb and Craig Melvin's voices were sharp and clear but the 68-year-old’s meteorologist’s voice continued to sound muffled as he began reporting on the weather.
Melvin stepped in and tried to distract viewers from the technical difficulty Roker was having by singing Neil Diamond's 'Sweet Caroline'.
A few moments later, Roker realized something was off with his mic. He reached around himself and adjusted the body mic attached to his waist.
“You have to turn your microphone on Al," Melvin told him while he fidgeted with the mic.
Roker took off his mic and put it in his hand to get a better look at it. He turned it on at the same time a ‘Today’ crew member rushed with a handheld wireless mic for him.
The ‘Today’ meteorologist with a straight voice told the crew member that he did not need the help.
"I'm good; I got a mic. I turned it on," he told the crew member, who offered him the other mic.
Al Roker is no stranger to blunders on ‘Today’
The ‘Today’ weatherman has developed a knack for on-air blunders. During one of the segments a few weeks ago, Roker goofed up and broke a cat’s litter box.
Editor in Chief of the magazine Real Simple, Lauren Lannotti, hosted a ‘Today’ segment named, 'Double It Up'.
She introduced the Frisco Hidden Planter Cat Litter Box, an affordable pet necessity. A stuffed toy cat was placed in the inner part of the litter box to show how a cat can fit inside the open space.
Roker was present and was messing around with the box's lid. As he picked it up, he broke the lid, spilling all of the marbles on the floor, prompting his co-host Craig Melvin to ask, “What is wrong with you?”
