LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: While Russell Brand finds himself at the receiving end of sexual violence allegations, a video clip showing Katy Perry distraught after the British comedian divorced her by text has gone viral.
After a whirlwind romance, the American pop star and the British comedian married in India on October 23, 2010. But just 14 months after their marriage, Brand reportedly divorced the ‘California Gurls’ singer over a text message on New Year’s Eve in 2011.
The moment has been forever captured in Perry’s concert documentary ‘Part of Me’. One particular scene shows the visibly devastated Perry putting up a smile and getting ready to perform in front of a crowd.
The clip has gained traction online, with several fans hailing her for her resilience and strength.
Why is Russell Brand receiving hate?
After a recent investigation by The Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4, Brand, 48, has been accused by at least for women of sexual assaults over a period between 2006 to 2013, per The Independent.
The ‘Get Him to the Greek’ actor vehemently denied all accusations directed at him in a YouTube video, claiming all his relationships were consensual.
However, it has been conjectured that Katy Perry probably “found out the real truth” about Russell Brand.
In an interview with Vogue in 2013, the ‘Firework’ crooner said about her former husband, “He’s a very smart man, and I was in love with him when I married him.”
However, she added, “Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011.”
While she admitted that she initially found Brand’s humor “hysterical in some ways,” she changed her mind when, as Perry said, “He started making jokes about me and he didn’t know I was in the audience, because I had come to surprise him at one of his shows.”
She added, “At first when I met him he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they’re like, I can’t handle the equalness.”
The ‘Roar’ singer continued, “He didn’t like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting.”
However, she later conceded, “I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can’t necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day. I let go and I was like: This isn’t because of me; this is beyond me. So I have moved on from that.”
'Katy is way too good for him anyway'
As the video of the visibly shaken Katy Perry composing herself at backstage went viral, her fans hailed her as the 'Queen' for conducting herself with grace even in the face of adversity.
One of the fans commented, "This video gave me the most immense respect for her. Imagine going through the most painful moment of your life and then having to put a fake smile on and perform for hours. She’s a queen for this."
"She was sooo broken she couldn’t even go on stage at one point… but SHE HEARD HER FANS AND SHE SMILE BACK AT THEM," said another fan.
Someone else said, "Katy is way too good for him anyway."
"My respect for her has grown multi-folded- She performed through that pain," said someone else.
Someone explained that Perry's love for her fans made her so resilient, writing, "The way Katy didn’t deserve that and she had to act like nothing happened bc she has people waiting for her and the show must go on. I fu.. hate him honestly."
Someone else empathized, "For context, Russell broke up with her before her performance in. A. Text. Message. Right before her performance. She didn’t want to perform. She wanted to give up. Her team was there for her. You can look up the video on YouTube. It’s a documentary she did of her tour."
