NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The 76th Tony Awards honored the best Broadway productions of the 2022-23 season. The event was held at the United Palace in New York City on June 11, 2023. Ariana DeBose, the Oscar-winning actress, hosted the event for the second year in a row.
Lupita Nyong'o, Jessica Chastain, Michelle Williams, Melissa Etheridge, Skylar Astin, Anna Wintour, Dylan Mulvaney, Antwayn Hopper, Emilio Sosa and many others were present on the red carpet at the gala. The evening was undoubtedly memorable, but it also featured some of the worst fashion blunders by well-known celebrities. Here is the list of the 10 worst dressed celebrities at the 2023 Tony Awards.
Lupita Nyong'o
Kenyan-Mexican actress Lupita Nyongo has won numerous honors, including an Academy Award, and has been nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Tony Award. The 40-year-old made a strangely brazen appearance on the red carpet in a tuxedo. She wore a breastplate made from her own body by designer Misha Japanwala.
Ben Platt
Ben Platt, 29, looked sharp while attending the 76th Annual Tony Awards in New York City with his fiance, Noah Galvin. The 'Pitch Perfect' star, 29, arrived at the United Palace Theatre, where the event was held, and joined other famous people such as Lea Michele and Julianne Hough on the glam red carpet. Platt stood out in a pair of loose-fitting black pants and a double-breasted black suit jacket with pointy shoulder pads. The artist finished off his all-black look by sporting a black shirt, black tie, and a pair of sophisticated black dress shoes. Fans, however, said that "Ben's suit is too big," saying that the outfit fell short of the highest fashion standards. The 29-year-old apparently looked like he needed a "tailor. Or maybe a diet," as claimed by a fan.
Amber Ruffin
Despite her penchant for blazers, Amber Ruffin chose to wear a vivid blue gown to the 2023 Tony Awards. The 44-year-old TV host wore a fitted dress with a thigh-high slit, puff sleeves, and a train for the awards ceremony.
Micaela Diamond
Micaela Diamond, a 'Parade' nominee, entered the 76th Annual Tony Awards wearing florals. The 23-year-old, who was up for best actress in a musical, appeared to have made an effort to look bright while flaunting the floral gown on the red carpet, but it didn't quite work.
Jordan Roth
Producer of 'Into the Woods' Jordan Roth made noise at the 2023 Tony Awards with his unearthly appearance. The 47-year-old donned a scarlet cloak with a hood and sequin embellishments over a floor-length black dress with long sleeves. The producer added red lips, a matching manicure, and a ton of sequins to his head to complete the look created by Ludovic de Saint Sernin. The maker had a whip that he broke while posing for pictures on the carpet, adding extra flair. Even though some of his supporters described him as "fire," others made fun of him by writing, "Shut the front, back, and garage doors immediately."
Sara Bareilles
Georges Chakra created an ensemble for Sara Bareilles that she called the "dress of my dreams" Sara Bareilles showed off a low-cut red dress that she raved about on her Instagram story. Savannah White, a stylist, chose her drawstring sleeve design and silver Manolo Blahnik heels. Hairstylist Jemma Muradian gave the two-time Grammy winner's dark locks an intricate red crystal hairband for the awards show. Sara's beautiful brown eyes were highlighted by makeup artist Tobi Henney, who also gave her a subtle red lip color. But don't you feel that her fashion statement was a miss compared to the conventional dresses worn by other celebrities at the big event?
Utkarsh Ambudkar
Utkarsh Ambudkar, an actor/rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer best known for his work on the CBS popular series 'Ghosts' and the upcoming Disney film World's Best, attended June 11 celebrations and walked the red carpet as an award presenter. Utkarsh was dressed in an Atelier Cillian by Stephen Mikhail golden double-breasted embroidered suit. The 39-year-old was wearing a gold silk satin shirt and sequined slip-on loafers from local Harlem menswear shops while carrying a Judith Leiber 'Turnable' bag with encrusted crystals.
Melissa Etheridge
Melissa Etheridge, 62, wore a stylish black costume that showcased her rockstar style, but the performer fell short of making a fashion statement on the red carpet.
Dominique Fishback
Dominique Fishback didn't wear one of her trademark voluminous, gala gowns to the Tony Awards. The artist chose Dundas for the occasion in which she made her debut. Peter Dundas' creations are noted for their sensuous appearances and it doesn't seem this is the best choice for the major event. Her outfit was styled by Madison Guest.
Betsy Wolfe
Betsy Wolfe wore a purple dress with sweeping sleeves and feathered details to show off her cleavage. She dressed entirely in purple for the big occasion, which was surprising.
