SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: The renowned actor Tom Cruise celebrated his 61st birthday in Australia by going to the 'Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One' premiere. Simon Pegg, Hayley Atwell, and Pom Klementieff all joined him on the red carpet for the movie's Australian premiere on Monday, July 3, at Darling Harbour's International Convention Center in Sydney.
The Sydney Morning Herald stated that "it’s a testament to Cruise’s staying power and star wattage that despite homegrown favorite Margot Robbie doing the rounds for Barbie this past week, the Mission: Impossible premiere still felt like the biggest event in town."
'Oppenheimer first and then Barbie'
Cruise is well aware of the significance of 'MI:7', 'Barbie', and Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' all releasing on July 20 as the struggling film industry pins their hopes on their box office returns, domestically and abroad. "I grew up seeing movies on the big screen. That’s how I make them, and I like that experience; it’s immersive, and to have that as a community and an industry, it’s important," Cruise noted. "I still go the movies."
The 'American Made' star is reportedly getting ready for an epic back-to-back, movie-watching marathon, eager to see two movies in particular. "I want to see both Barbie and Oppenheimer. I’ll see them opening weekend. Friday, I'll see Oppenheimer first and then Barbie on Saturday."
'3 of the best movies of the year'
Fans of the 'Top Gun' star flocked to Twitter to react with one user writing, "He is literally me." Another fan noted, "dinner and then dessert." "3 of the best movies of the year coming out in the same month I'm afraid," mentioned another fan. Like our Hollywood superstar, an individual had chosen which movie to view first. He wrote, "Where I live, Barbie is released first (July 19th) so for me the 'choice' is easy enough." While another commented, "Yes. Everyone is watching Oppenheimer first then Barbie." One fan praised the star, "He really shows that he loves watching movies on big screen. He often says that. They might be his competitors, but he also celebrates them." Other tweets read, "He's saving the best for last." and "Desserts at last, they say."
