NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: During a recent ‘Today’ broadcast, host Savannah Guthrie threw a shade at ‘Good Morning America’ star George Stephanopoulos and ‘Live’ host Mark Consuelos on air as she defends co-host Craig Melvin.
It all happened while the ‘Today’ hosts discussed the People’s Sexiest Man Alive poll during Carson Daly’s PopStart segment.
Though Daly was absent from the NBC show, his seat was taken by Sheinelle Jones.
On a similar day, Melvin abruptly left the morning show midway after it was revealed that ‘Today’ Al Roker and Craig Melvin were nominated for People’s magazine.
His co-host Savannah Guthrie joked about his ‘sexiness’ on live TV adding, “Craig had to leave a little early. He said something about canvassing for votes door to door. He feels voters want to meet him personally and assess his sexiness.”
Savannah Guthrie takes a dig at Mark Consuelos and George Stephanopoulos
On Wednesday, September 13 ‘Today’ episode, the morning show hosts Al Roker, Craig Melvin, and Sheinelle Jones discussed a recent poll that went viral on the internet.
Jones hosted a PopStart segment and announced that Roker and Melvin are the two men nominated in the People’s Sexiest Man Alive poll.
Roker will be up against Pierce Brosnan, Kurt Russell, and Michael Douglas for the Sexiest Grampa, he shared his doubtfulness about his win against his fellow nominees.
He said, “I don’t have a chance in that group”, and reflected on Russell, “He made Santa look sexy! It’s over.”
Meanwhile, Melvin is nominated for Sexiest Morning Show Host and will be competing against ‘GMA’ star George Stephanopoulos, ‘Live’ host Mark Consuelos, and ‘CBS Morning’ Nate Burleson.
Guthrie exclaimed in excitement, “Oh my gosh, no contest!”
However, Melvin had a different opinion about his win as he shared while laughing, “Oh no! It’s a bad year for sexy.”
But Guthrie and Jones disagreed and the former came to his defense adding, “You brought back sexy.”
Jones chimed in agreeing with Guthrie and grooving with sexy moves, “He’s bringing sexy back."
Guthrie shook her head and said, “Sexy never left!”
Al Roker's first time as grandpa
Al Roker, the beloved weatherman became a proud grandfather when his daughter, Courtney, and her husband Wes welcomed their baby girl, Sky Clara Laga.
The announcement was made during the Morning Boost segment of the show, with co-host Craig Melvin sharing the joyous news.
The choice of the name 'Sky' was fitting given Roker's meteorological background.
Roker had expressed his excitement about becoming a grandfather earlier in the year when he first shared the news of Courtney's pregnancy.
